if it has a tilt and slide sunroof, slide it back into its aperture and shine a torch in there beneath the glass, the "tray" can rust out badly on these Ghias and it will leak from there, I know this first hand we had one years back and although the body was good overall the sunroof tray was rusted She's all good round there mate I've fitted a new sunroof because they old one was rotten and sunk down in one corner so I've had a good look at the tray

Nice Mk3's, are you all on seriesoneturbo? Nope I kinda assumed that was for series one turbos and altho they are high on my want list it's very unlikely to happen.

I had a bit of a bargain on eBay the other day, four bumper overriders for 20 quid! So they turn up today and I rip into the box with excitment only to discover they all have issues with the bottom clamp bolts ones seized and 2 are snapped off and one has a thread and a wing nut (i looked back at the eBay ad and it does say 3 are damaged one is bodge) no biggy out came the drill and some wood screws and this is the result.

Small update on the mk3, plans are afoot to have a 1.8 130bhp zetec on standard fuel injection fitted by ds automotive, it's just a case of getting funds together to pay for it, I'm hoping to have it in and tested out propperly ready to take to the gathering this year :-) should be a sneaky little sleeper when she's done :-)

Brakes and shocks all fitted now, after a closer look it's seems like what I've actually bought is Sierra (possibly xr4i) calipers and cosworth discs but who cares it now stops a treat! Before, barely visable brakes. After, mahoosive beasts! :-D they have about half an inch clearance between caliper and wheel! Only issue I now have is since fitting the shocks with hubs and brakes it feels light on the front and seems to wonder about on the road? Any ideas??? A mate at work says the tracking but it seems very extreme to be just be that?

....any one got an estate to chuck in the mix? I have one. The less loved 5 door too (which I actually prefer over the 3dr). I converted it to EFi last year but have just snagged a 2.0 Zetec for it. Just need to source all the 1.8 parts to make it fit now! I look forward to seeing how your conversion goes. Nice car too...I do love a Ghia.

Hi, Great thread. My 1st car was a X reg 1.6 Ghia Escort in Sienna Brown which was actually reddish brown. Was so posh ;-) velour, sunroof, tints, intermittent wash / wipe but did not even have elec windows or central locking that year!
Ohh how I wish I had a great big shed behind my house and when changing car just parked them in there instead of selling, would have a great collection well maybe apart from the cut / shut sierra and proton (don't ask, times were hard)
The Escort was polished within an inch of its life and sported cloverleaf alloys at one point. I remember when buying for £1800 could have got the Ghia, an early non Injection XR3 or a Mk2 RS2000, felt like a hard choice at the time but why oh why did I not got for the Mk2 with lovely fishnet recaros!!!
Having enjoyed days out in breakers yards as was the fashion then, I knew times had changed when a few years later visited a scrappies and several Escorts were there and no one wanted the spoilers or alloys anymore........ sad times!!! In the 80's and early 90's they were like poor quality wobbly children's play pony s***t ha ha
Anyway will leave you all to get on with your Escort stories now!
