Volvo 240 Estate. 2.0 petrol. MOT until April 2014, Tax to the end of Jan.
Bought for load lugging, now all of my loads have been lugged! I need a smaller car for commuting and i just don't have the heart to ruin this big classic with commuter miles. If you need a practical car they don't come more useful than a 240 estate!!
163,000 miles approx. I have changed the water pump and timing belt 1000 miles ago, so it needs nothing in the way of servicing. I changed all the engine, gearbox and rear axle oils too. All ignition components have also been renewed (plugs, leads, distributor cap etc.). Don't let the mileage put you off, the engine feels as powerful, solid and reliable as it would have been 20 years ago. The Volvo B200 engines are renowned for over-engineered longevity when maintained to the standard i have kept this one to.
I have also addressed a common and massively complex repair on this car - the heater motor. Not working when bought, i have since replaced the motor unit completely. Works a treat now!
Other than that, the only alteration to how it left the factory is the inclusion of a modern CD player with Aux input for your MP3 player.
The car starts on the button first time, runs perfectly, and is a fantastic appreciating classic. Even the heated seats work. You could buy this and use it with no issues, but if you are looking for a perfect car, you may have a couple of points to address. I always like to be as honest as possible, but please do not let the following put you off buying this car. They are minor niggles:
-2 small patches of rust (1p size) under the rear tailgate.
-One small rust patch on the OS rear door
-Very minor rust blister on the rear arch.
-A few scratches and dents typical of a car of this age, but nothing detrimental (broken paint etc)
-Headlight wipers appear to be missing. I have tried to source these on the Volvo forums from breakers, but it simply hasn't been a priority at the moment! Likewise the rear wash-wipe, which i will try to address this week.
As you can see, its minor cosmetics that would need addressed to make this car tip top, or conversely buy, drive and forget - they will not affect the use of the car in the slightest. It hasn't stopped me using the car to its fullest, and the car has ran faultless in that time.
Car can be viewed evenings and weekends in a garaged location (better light for inspection).
I can supply pictures of anything else you wish to see prior to you coming to view, including all the service work (I'm pedantic like that!!)
Car is located where i live (the bit that will stop anyone buying it because its a "nice car but just too far away for me") 20 miles south of Aberdeen. To combat this I may, under agreement, deliver the car within a 200 mile radius. Cant say fairer than that!
