I had a look on this forum specifically looking for this firm, which, as GBE, is now on its fourth incarnation. They'rejust like Dr Who! It brought back memories of my nightmare with this appalling crew. I won't give too many details because I fear that they may identify me and come looking. I too put out a search on the car breakers website for a gearbox and got a call from a mobile offering: we pick it up from you, take it to our workshop and slip in a recon gearbox from stock. (They will then recon my gearbox and put into their stock.) They valet the car and have it ready for collection in ten days. They will do a gearbox oil change in six months and offer a two year warranty. Very attractive. Off it went and I saw nothing of it for two months. It was impossible to get any information from them whatsoever apart from " We are on the case." Eventually it was done and within four months was going down the same old slippery slope as the old gearbox. Back it went under warranty and they had it for three months. They claimed to have had it in the workshop, had the gearbox out and looked at it, but when I took a train journey across from the other side of England, it was still in the yard, covered with dust and untouched. After some threats from me they agreed a date for three weeks later and I went there again. They were still propping the engine and gearbox up and mounting them, but they finished it. I had to pay a large sum - in cash - on top of the warranty job because of some collateral damage. The gearbox was still not right, so I sold the car and waited to get over the mental trauma of the experience. And it was the most nightmarish experience that I've ever had.

hi guys just a quick one..I had all of the above promises over the phone about warranty...repair...cheap price...collection/recovery of broken down volvo xc90 etc etc....has the car collected on Friday morning...didn't feel easy about it over the weekend...you know the adage...fools rush in...so did some Internet research and came across this forum...almost could believe the posts up here...so i phoned one of the guys who had left there tel no... after talking to him for about 20 minutes...with my blood now in my boots...I knew what I had to do..I tried contacting the garage to tell them I had changed my mind but there was no answer...eventually I remembered that I took a picture on my camera phone of the tow man's truck, and using his telephone no I found out that they are usually closed on the weekends..so I researched GBE'S location and made a plan...... at about 4am on Monday morning I got up got dressed and drove to their general location and located the "garage" which is actually a glorified scrap yard without a locked gate but with an old security guard aged about 65 sitting in a hut watching TV. .so I snuck past him located my wife's volvo then using the spare key and some steel chains...moving about 2 meters at a time I dragged the volvo, only stopping to correct the steering angle out of GBE'S scrap yard past the scrapped porsche cayenne, with the bonnet and all the windows open to the elements and the engine missing..past the nearly new range rover sport which was sitting on bricks with there 22 inch wheels stolen and passed the audi Q7's, range's, volvos, BMW etc etc which had been dumped in this farm/scrapyard/"GARAGE" and out in to the main road where upon what must have been the busiest day for recovery trucks I waited for 6 hours for the recovery truck which I called to come and collect me....oh I had them knocking on the window asking why I'd changed my mind etc...I even had the boss man arrive in his convertable Bentley telling me that the neighbour was complaining about me blocking he narrow road and that his guys would push it back inside until my truck turned up...yeah ok lee...but fcuk the neighbour ive got road tax and this is a public road...in the end I got to it before they did...but what a palaver!! as a footnote I took it to a garage called nudgematics by hangar lane he had it for 1 week (because he's so busy) and rebuilt the gear box with new fluids etc for under 2 grand to be honest I think he either felt sorry for me or he didn't want to mess me around after hearing my story ..but whichever it was I was and still am very grateful...and the car drives a dream now....the moral of the tale... unless like me you're 6'3 15 stone and look like the rock (wrestler) AND are prepared to go S.A.S on some east based gypsie wide boys (that's what the are if you don't know) who take your car and sell the parts to the next victim...measure twice and cut once...believe me I know....

Hello Everyone,
So good I have found this forum and topic! Your stories is EXACTLY like mine adventure with Mr. Abbot. Story about promises, not picking up phones, dragging delivery terms, promises, all that stuff. I was tempted by the 2 years warranty as well, when initially I decided to send them my car. I waited over 2 months for the repair. Got stories that the owner / boss was at hospital, bla bla. Ok, fair enough, maybe he was. Got my gearbox fixed for £2300, which broke down again after 19 months. Called them back in hope they will repair it under warranty, but was told that the damage was not caused by what they have done before. So paid them 1400 again. And paid in advance, cause was promised that they will make it quick. I was hurrying up for my holiday trip, so let them trick myself in hope it will be quick. Paid in advance! What a mistake! Got my car finally yesterday after 2.5 months! Nothing was getting to this guys - that I had to walk kids to school in the rain and cold, that I had to spend money for taxis, etc. Nothing! They were not picking up phones, when they finally picked all I heard were another promises. They were promising, that they will be carrying on with the repair from Monday again, Monday was turning into Wednesday, Wednesday into Friday and that way was week after week after week. So I got my car.... Faulty!!!! Gearbox is not done, playing again, not changing gears automatically, driving only on manual only, which occasionally kicks back to automatic. Starting from 3rd gear, so it is hard to start moving! I am so glad I did not send my car back to them, as now I know I would lose another £100 for the car delivery. When I was picking up my car yesterday it was cleaned and washed. But I was wondering why? Probably stayed under the trees with open windows for 1 month or so. Or to make good impression? I remember when they took my car it was just freshly washed and cleaned before holiday trip. Why is the moisture inside? I cant get rid of the water vapors from the inside of the windscreen when I start driving. I am gonna suit them for the initial repair cost which did not last even 2 years and was inefficient and recent cost which I should not have been paying under warranty. Or should I write "warranty". This would be around 4 grand and for that I am hoping to repair my gearbox at some different garage. If not succeeded I will sell the car as it is. Definitely wont put anything more in it. Anybody knows a solicitor who can deal with this kind of claim? I have got enough. I know, when I will send my car back to them I will probably wait another 2 months or so. No way. Thanks for your answers and suggestions. Regards.

Sorry to hear your tale of wo!I am really surprised to hear that they are still trading!!!! I reported them to trading standards, the local police and hm customs and excise...Ther is no VAT charged,no vat registration numbers and with the amount they charge it must be a company that should be registered!!!The local police told me that I should not have paid before the car was completed and that it was not fraud to take money under false pretences!!Trading standards advised writing to GBE which I did and in response got a phone call full of blarney!!!Further reference to trading standards advised another letter!!!!!!Customs and excise made no comment to me!!I had spent all my savings on the faulty ,so called repair, and at another garage to have a new crankshaft fitted and could not afford to persue it through the courts.I wish you luck and for me it just remains as a bad dream!!!!

Hi, I wish this thread was running when I had issues with my car, I would never have sent it To these. I found afterwards that they were registered under multiple names. The police said it was a civil matter.
This said my car went to them 5 years ago for repair and it was never returned.
I think when I last looked they had also been named ..
1st start garage Porsche Tech Ltd, Light Tech Studio Ltd
I'm sure there are many, many more names now. Prior to Basildon they appear to have been based in London.

I know this is an old thread but I thought this may make you smile.
My father sent his Td6 vogue ranger rover to Mr Abbot for a new engine. The same happened. 9 months went by after numerous calls visits etc, he was called from Devon to GBE to pick it up. When he arrived it wouldn’t start. He had it trailered home and after a ranger over specialist checked it over they said it was knackered.
Dad was a stubborn git and wouldn’t let this low life get away his money, after I showed him this thread he started legal proceedings against Mr Abbot.
Unfortunately shortly afterwards dad passed away after a very brief fight with cancer. Fortunately my twin brother and I were permitted to take the case on in his stead.
It has taken a long time (3 years) but last year we won our case in court and were awarded the full claim plus damages and costs occurred.
It took a further year going through all the legal channels to actually make him put his hand in his pocket and in the end the high court enforcement agents did the trick!
I know my dad is smiling wherever he is,
Mr abbot has been paying monthly for a while, he’ll have 8 years to remember each and everyone one of you who he ripped off every month when that payment goes out.
Karma finally caught up with this Bellend.
Maybe you could have you’re day in court too?
Any questions please ask.
