if it doesn't already have them, a set a relays and an uprated headlight loom will make a huge difference, it did on my VW T4 and my mk1 golf Thank's l'll check if they are relayed or not I've got the timing belt to do on my V6 cabrio very soon. Was it really that easy?! Did you do the water pump at the same time? Cheers They really are a bargain buy, and the cam belt change was straight forward, l'll send you a pm with a link . No l didn't do the waterpump this time but it felt tight and wasn't leaking so l'll leave it till later

Drove the old girl home last Friday, 440 miles nearly did the whole journey on one tank full and was keeping to 70-80 so did well on fuel on the ferry.. of course single bloke in aging sports coupe yes got pulled by HM customs but was soon sent on my way. Anyway main reason for driving it home was for the MOT and had a quick check over found some poorly brake hoses both rusty and badly perished rubber, ended up replacing 4 in all and freed off seized rear calliper slider. Fitted some new plastic guides on the seats so they fingers crossed

Looks very nice. Proves you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a sound car.

So haven't added any updates to this for a while and I'm back in the uk now so the coupe is only being used once in a while but l'll keep it because it doen't cost me much to keep and it'a useful to have two cars. I'm going to strip the engine before the gathering and fix an annoying oil leek. So any way l've got a new door bottom trim for the drivers side and decided to re paint the lower and the B pillar trim because it had so corrosion, came up well and looks much better. It's s5ill got the steel winter tyres on and will get the alloys refurbished but l've wondered about adding steel wheels with chrome hub caps, had some hubcaps kicking about so stuck them on,sorry about the poor pictures it was late in the evening.
What do you lot think? yes l know it will need to be lowered a tad....

I agree a lovely car. I love the colour, the model, etc
The wheels.....uhm...it's your car and something that can be easily changed back. Not for me. But then again it's your. I think a nice polished BBS rim will look great.
Good luck mate and enjoy your awesome car!

Is it just me that thinks it looks best on its original rims? Looks spot on in those pictures taken at some secret air base - where is that by the way? It looks awesome!
If you did change the wheels I reckon a period set of Hockenheims would look the nuts.

Lovely car...I have to agree with the 2 previous posts, those steels and caps just don't on that car IMHO. Up to you though, your car your rules

Thanks guy's, this is what l like about the forum they will tel you their honest opinion, as l said the original wheels are away being refurbished because the inside's are corroded, l think l'll take it down 20mm and perhaps some wheel spacers when l rebush the suspension. Wheel choice on these is limited unless l converted it to 5 stud but that quite expensive. Anyway need to post pic's of the new seats in my herald

Steelies with dogdish caps = very out of place on a car like this, I agree that it is clean looking with the stock alloys.

I think the bandies could work well, but not the hub caps.

I almost left when I saw the mesh grill but I'm glad I stuck around Harsh but fair - first time I've dropped into this thread - the OE alloys and colour work so well Yeah what was l thinking.... Made 1400 pounds on this car claiming mileage whilst working in Germany from the company l was working for an that was after deducting everything purchase price, fuel , parts etc and it never missed a beat and was a hoot driving around Germany not bad for a for the price of a washing machine lol, so it deserves a bit of tlc. There is only a small amount of cosmetic rust which will be dealt with, so the list will be Engine out and clean and new gaskets and seals New clutch Replacement gearbox (2nd is loosing syncro) Cleaned and repainted subframe New shox and spring with 20mm lowering All new bushes front and rear Overhauled brakes and maybe Porsche calipers Wheel refurb to original colour. But before that it's got an MOT in early May. Thanks for all your comments and watch this space.

I do like these, a friend has one, interstellar miles, 100% not looked after! and it just keeps going.
Not a fan of the steelies as they were fitted to show, but guess they could work with a lot of other mods, maybe more traditional "modern" wheels will look better.
Are there any 4x4 wheels that would be very different, but also cheap as chips to fit, to get a different look?
