As I said earlier the previous owner had had the car broken into, apparently this was done in the rain because when I lifted the carpets up in the front the floor was covered in what used to be news paper and was now papier-mâché! Luckily the floor is still solid but I had to practically mop the water out of the foot wells. Hmmm I think I may need new carpet. And the "No Fear" mats are NOT going back in. Had a good look at the original wheels also, I think they need a bit of work! Still the tyres are ok.

great to see another super-minx on here, i have a 63 saloon and a 66 estate. like the wheels, but would be careful of bigger tyres, the steering will be much heavier and the box will wear out quicker. you should put speedie spares on contacts as well!!pro made carpets are expensive but make a huge difference .looking forward to seeing progress on her.

Glad I am not the only one on here! I have used Speedies before when I had my Avenger, always found them very good, I have contacted Danbury's about carpets as they are well past it.

I noticed the other morning the smell of petrol coming from the vicinity of the minx, I had a look underneath and I could see drip, drip, drip! OH S#@#!!!!! Here was the ultimate result of what I found. And here is what it did to the spare. Managed to lash up a temporary repair but the whole lot will be replaced. Still it explains the curse word fuel economy, I would rather think of it like that tbh than any other way! It wasn't the perfect way to spend a Sunday morning with a hang over and I have had back ache from crawling around under it since!

Engine photo, does anyone know if this is the standard air filter? I thought it should have a round one on and this is held onto the carb with a jubilee clip! Also I think the oil filter has been upgraded as I am sure it should have a canister.

Yup, that's the stock air filter, mine had one identical, also held on with a Jubilee clip. Big old flat green filter in mine with a wire mesh flame trap on the side that faces the carb. Tecalemit, I think the pressing is? It's stamped into the body of the pan.
Early ones had an element type, I think the later 1592 and deffo the 1725 had a spin-on filter. Mine had the earlier glass-domed fuel pump filter housing though. Held on with a thumbscrew, useful to pull off at the side of the street when it had sucked curse word through from the tank and blocked up. Would also see globules of water rolling around in it, mostly from filling the tank in the rain..
Mine had a twin horn that, once adjusted, gave a very pleasant note, went very well with the chrome ring in the centre of the wheel. Never had any long-term problems with the dynamo once I'd cleaned and adjusted the points in the regulator box, it's in a fairly shielded position.

Thanks Phil, I need to find an air filter element then because all that remains is the rubber outer section! You have put my mind at rest at least with the jubilee onto the carb, and it's got twin horns and they sound superb.

Oh, and also make sure that the pipe that comes down off the back of the intake manifold below the carb is clear.. caused cold-weather oddness on mine where the fuel would pool inbetween the "fingers" inside (if you open the throttle wide and peer down with a flashlight you'll see) and cause the engine to flood and surge upon turning corners. Took a while to figure that one out
