Hi all, thinking to sell this project on to someone who has more time and money than I do. It's a Genuine 1980 RS2000 custom, parts missing are carb, radiator, a few hoses, headlight bowls and lights, carpets and boot carpet. As far as I can remember everything else is there. Useable brown fishnet recaros, slight wear on bolsters, headrests could do with being retrimmed, good dash, good uncut door cards. All original glass with reg number etched into all windows, V5 in my name. Original RS 4 spokes needing refurbed with knackered tyres. Engine was replaced for a brand new one from Ford back in the early 90's. The car was last on the road in 1995 so the engine has done very little mileage will probably just need stripped and cleaned. Sierra 5 speed box fitted. I think there is 60 odd thou on the clock. Brake calipers and drums removed but in a box in the boot. Now for the bad bit, the car is totally rotten. Floors are gone, front panel, doors, wings, A posts, sills, inner sills, bulkhead, chassis legs etc all rotten. Boot floor is whole but very thin. When I dragged it out of a barn 18 months ago I had to weld angle iron from the strut top to the bulkhead to hold it together because the inner wing was coming away from the bulkhead when I jacked it up. The only good bit about the body is the roof (non sunroof) which is rot free. It apparently had new inner wings fitted years ago after a bump so the strut tops are good but there is no chassis number stamped into the inner wing obviously. Vin plate is on the slam panel though. Any idea what I should ask for this? You would need to be very brave to take this on to weld it up, I was going to reshell it but just can't find the time or money to do it.

The ID alone is no doubt worth £2k ish, so I'd start around there and see what happens.

bung it on ebay?
£5k is what i'd expect. bonkers money for a rotten ford with a pinto in it but hey, someone will pay it.
sold my rs2 custom which was just a rough rolling shell without the rs suspension, no engine and box and pretty much no interior for £3k 3-4 yrs ago.

I did wonder about ebay, there just seem to be so many timewasters. I had a Cossie engine on a couple of years ago and it was nothing but hassle, people not paying, not replying to messages etc. I was so curse word off I just kept the engine but ebay charged me 50 quid each time the engine sold which was 3 times so 3 final value fees so I ended up with an invoice from ebay for £150 for selling an engine 3 times which I never got paid for. What a bloody job I had getting that back, but you're right ebay is the place to get the most for it.

In which case so you can avoid ebay, £500 cash and i'll see you when I get off the ferry, I think I can drive up there in about 24hrs Location might be an issue for some buyers but yes ebay is full of messers but sadly it is the best place to get top $

My view is that its worth £3500 - £4000 . It will be a big job to re-shell it [ something i really have a problem with ] . It has to be to a good standard as people want the best nowadays . There are more complete and better ones on ebay at the moment including one with grp 1 downdraft ida's on it . I would stick it on there for £1400 .

i've just realised this in in Shetland Islands?

Yeah I know, the fact it's so far away will put people off, especially since nobody will be able to come and view it. Saying that I could ship it to Aberdeen for around £250 in a container.

Why don't you phone a few escort specialists and see what they would offer you . iwould think they would be more inclined tyo handle a big job as they have the resources . I think they would also notn be put off by the transport issues and would prob bite your hand off as it a different colour .

specialists will want to make more money on top but no harm giving em a call.
personally i'd wash it, maybe even get the buffing wheel on and polish it up, vacuum it out and put as much as you can back together. ship it to the mainland if it's only 250quid and bung it on ebay.
not much outlay and well worth the effort i think.

I've had a lot of pm's about this. I should mention there are new spare panels that would come with the car. They have all been shotblasted and primed, all are slightly dented from storage and I think the shotblasting was a bit rough on them so they would all need a skim of filler to take the warping out of them and make flat again. List of panels 2x flat front wings 1x O/S nosecone wing 2x door skins 1x good S/H bootlid 2x rear arches 1x slam panel 2x outer sills 2x inner sills 1x radiator mount panel 2x lower rear quarter repair poanels 1x repairable S/H bonnet 1x good S/H fuel tank 1x front panel 1x rear panel 1x heater bulge panel cut from another car 2x strut top repair panels Details off the v5 Model: Escort RS Custom 2 door saloon 1993cc Colour: Orange Date of first reg: 03 Jan 1980 Former keepers: 9 I got more pics last night, front n/s door post and where the inner wing joins the bulkhead is the worst, when you open the door the whole bulkhead is flexing as it has burst right along the seam. Rear inner arches are good, as said, boot floor whole but very thin, spare wheel well holed etc etc etc. Judging by what you are all saying, I'm thinking £3.5k PM me if interested.

Location rather than the rust kills it stone dead. It is worthless where it is.
Get it to mainland - preferably south of Manchester - and put it on eBay.
