For Sale is this P reg 1996 Mk1 UK mx5, Tax and Test till April 14:
I bought this car as it has some gaz coilovers on it and due to lots of faults with it its owner sold it cheap. I intended to drive it home and break it for spares to make a quick buck, however after a few hundred miles and giving it the once over i decided it was far too good to break. I also secretly wanted to keep it while my other mk1 is undergoing surgery. The log book never came back so a couple of weeks ago I applied for one, this week the DVLA sent me a letter saying I can expect it within 3 weeks - so if you want the car right now you can have a receipt and leave me an SAE and I'll forward it or fill it out and return it to the DVLA.
It has 73,000 miles on the clock, it goes really well, none of its factory horsepower seem to have gone the engine performs well. The previous owner lost the history but the VOSA history confirms the mileage back to last decade, the car has its original Mazda dealer plates front and back. The interior and exterior are commensurate with a car that has been loved, the rear arches are spotless. The only evidence of rust is on the lower part of the passenger sill - its still solid though and this should not prevent it getting an MOT for a few years; its also below the stone chip so would not be expensive to have repaired professionally. There are plenty of car park dents - mostly on the drivers side for some reason. The electric mirrors work great and fold in for parking if thats your thing.
I have replaced the roof with a very very good one from my other mk1 which had never been outside; there are no splits or cracks, there are a few small marks on the rear windows where my friend folded the roof down without unzipping the rear screen (zip works perfectly he just didn't know to do so) this is not cracked or split - unlike most mk1s the seals don't leak unless you spray high pressure water perpendicularly directly onto them. I also replace the plastic front location nipples and the catches with good ones.
Mechanically the car is good the gearbox is good, no snicks or baulking that some of the earlier cars can suffer with. the clutch is strong, doesn't slip at all and I assume genuine mazda at 73k. It also engages and disengages really well as I have replaced the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder with parts from a mk2.5 and used a pressure bleeder to get all the air out (the master cylinder is a curse word job I don't recommend it). The car has a open rear diff as standard which works as it should ( I also have a welded (permanently locked rear diff) I can include for a bit extra if you want to skid it ).
I have fitted the Japanese lowering springs and shocks from my other mk1 as they sit nicely. They are firm but if you intend to change this all the nuts are free and the captive nuts in the lower wishbones are all fine. The brakes are all good; I have been done front and rear with OEM spec pads, new rear disks -the fronts are no where near needing replacement and bled up with new fluid.
The car has power steering and electric windows. The windscreen is free from chips and cracks, i have fitted brand new washer jets as the old ones were blocked and seized. The interior is standard black cloth, the seats are supportive and adjustable; as is always the case the drivers bolster has a threadbare patch. The car has the more desirable door cards with stainless speaker covers. The only remaining thing for me to fix on the car is the horn: the car is fitted with (or will be) a mk1 momo three spoke wheel but the horn doesn't work: I have ordered another boss and will fit it or if you want the car before I will include it. All the electrics work and the car is fitted with a high end Pioneer head-unit with CD/MP3/USB/aux input the radio works too! All the locks work off the key and the factory immobiliser works too. The car is fitted with a bigger battery and has all its boot trim including the jack, wheel brace and space saver spare wheel.
The 15" Rota Torque wheels are fitted with 4 nearly new Toyo T1R's which are an excellent road tyre. They are free from kerbing but the paint job is 7/10 rather than as new. The optional 14" standard mx5 daisy alloys are grubby and need a damn good scrub (or more likely a paint job) but they have four matching tyres which have plenty of tread. The garage vary style rubber lip has only been on the car a few hundred miles and is as new.
I've been entirely honest in my description (it reads a bit like war and peace - any questions email or pm me for my number. I'll hold the car for a deposit, it can be viewed on evenings or weekends, I can collect you Central train station if your travelling from afar.
On Rotas with front lip £900
On the daisys without lip £600
