Bit surprising this, parents went to get a form to register the 'spare' Fergie tractor retaining original number at the post office, nice lady behind the counter said oh you can do all that here now, put all documents onto system and sent off certified copies of the original green log book, £25 fee paid and as far as she and the computer are concerned its all good...They were unable to issue a tax disc at the time however have to wait a couple of weeks for that
Will wait and see what comes back from Swansea, surely it can't be that simple, nobody has mentioned an inspection of the chassis number yet either?
Anybody else been through this yet?

This is a surprise, in the sense that I don't think the DVLA have announced that you can do this, but it's not a surprise in the sense that when the DVLA local office network closures were announced there was all sorts of speculation that lots of counter services would be carried out by the Post Office network.
I wonder if they can simply send off forms or if they have access to query data, too?

I have heard about it, you will either get the new V5 and VED disc or a letter asking for more info absolute the chassis number before they ask to see the vehicle. But being a tractor and the fact the plates are not transferable they will probably just send the new docs straight out.
The post office is now a middle man for the DVLA since the local offices closed but I'm not sure as to what extent they can do re issues and I can't be arsed to find a link..

As he was only charged £25 I suspect that was only a normal V62 fill in. Re reg can only take place using a V55/4/5 and that application nows cost £55. So I'd be expecting a letter back with the correct forms to fill in and a request for more money or a sorry no can do.

Could well be right Ken, although its strange they sent off the certified copies of the old green logbook, will keep the thread up to date with what drops through the post as I get told about it

I was told the other day there is a 6 week backlog on re reg transactions. Reg transfers was also like that at one point but that's caught up a fraction now. So much for improving efficiency by closing local LRO's !!!
My missus works in admin for a very well known car sale group, and they've been told to recommend people changing cars to put private plates onto retention first as the DVLA system is so slow now. They also hate dealing with cars coming from non UK locations, as they're now sitting on forecourts for weeks due to paperwork.
Hope you get a good result.

The original card log book in our families name from 1964 when we bought it, also had proof of age from the owners club, tax and MOT exempted, and was already insured anyway on the original reg number, oddly one of the supporting documents we had to send through was a copy of an insurance policy on it from 1965...
Got several letters through asking for the same information on different forms though, I still honestly don't know if it was the correct procedure or not...
