Went out scavenging this past weekend for bits for the petrol pump build. Saw this deep in a yard. Interesting. This is the scrap pile for a housing agency.... Popped in on the way home and was offered the whole thing for a £30.00 donation to a local charity vs it going for scrap. It has a good steering set up and a decent chassis. However the rear wheels are independently driven by motors. This may just be the foundation for an adult sized "Tot-Rod" Whatcha think Just found a couple of pics of the motor and drivetrain I have been offered for the collecting about 100 miles from here. Thiis was a project started by a group of guys early in 2011 and would have been awesome if life did not get in the way. So there you have the basics of what may be the start of a next project once some of the other current ones have been completed. While out scavenging I found this hood support arm/bracket which may become part of the pump nozzle support. Painted the undercoat on both inside and outside. And also mocked up a bit more. Tried out the idea of a cut out star.

Hi Grizz, unfortunately the pumps are going back to the firm supplying our new ones, so no dice there!
I like the look of what you have got done there, but I can't help but think the gauge looks a little out of scale with the body?

I like the look of what you have got done there, but I can't help but think the gauge looks a little out of scale with the body? No probs regarding old pumps mate. Always worth asking though. Hopefully once it is on a 10mm backing and got some perspex overvit, the perspective will change.

Sometimes 10 inches is enough...... Found this complete opaque glass lamp at IKEA last week. Photo does not quite show proportions right, but I am happy with it, and once I get some signwriting sorted out for it, it should complete that part of the build. Perched on top of a wood wax tin. Hope to get back to this over the weekend.

Restarted work on this today, as the last couple of weeks were a bit busy. Yesterday I sealed all the insides of the welds with silicone. Followed this morning by a skim of filler over all the welds. After which I started block sanding the filler till Mickey popped around looking for some old Whitworth threaded nuts..... and he commented "why don't you use an orbital sander to speed up the job?" Which I then did. Nicola brought me some coffee down to the garage and took this pic. Once the sanding was done, I mocked up again, using a printed STAR word, but still not sure what I need to add to make this front end look right. After I cleaned up everything, I gave the front panel it's first coat of paint as well.

Did two bootfairs today which netted me a load of good stuff at silly prices. Including two 1200mm Sash Clamps for £5.00 Then came home and got the truck out the garage, as well as the Teardrop which Nicola cleaned inside and in the rear kitchen area. After prepping and cleaning both, I started on paint for the cabinet, and have to say I am pleased with the result. I also painted the star the same red as what went on the cabinet. I also had Charlie the farmer stop by while he was spraying the rear field to pick up some miniature Toby jugs that he collect, which I found at the one bootfair, he then asked for all my used chainsaw blades, as he has just bought a sharpening machine, and offered to sharpen my used chains...... perfect trade. He also looked at the pump as if I was a messiah, and said he would be rummaging in the farms old parts store to see if the brass pump nozzle he thinks is there, is still there, which may then find its way down here. RESULT !!!

Got home on Monday evening, and there was a parcel from the USA in the parcel box outside the house. Started making dinner as I was in first, and actually "forgot" about the parcel. 25 minutes later Nicola walked in and we chatted for a minute before she asked "what's in the parcel?" To which i replied..... "Oooopps, forgot about it with starting the dinner, probably from Don in Arkansas, please open it for me" Of course, she opened it while I maintained focus on the stove, next up she said..... "Oh look, he sent you a T-shirt and a Bandanna for me" which of course in this house is fact, everywhere else, she would have been sent to bed without dinner. So after dinner she already had her bandanna on (while we were eating) I tried my T-Shirt for size and we took a quick pic for Don to "Thank you mate" Last night I came home before her and when I put my work shirt in the laundry basket, which is in her "walk in wardrobe" I saw the bandanna proudly hanging with her other hats (she is one of very few women I know that can wear a hat and look good in it) so I reclaimed it and went to the garage with it hidden in my pocket, to get on with the petrol pump build. When I cam up to the house later to cook dinner ( I do a mean stirfry chicken) I put the bandanna on. She saw it and took a sneaky pic before plucking it from my head and tucking it in under her clothes saying "MIIIIIINE !" After work I managed to cut and sand, prep and undercoat the backing to the pump dial, as well as cutting and prepping the clear perspex for the front. Now in two minds between mounting it outside the front or cutting a hole and fitting it from the inside, which is probably the better way. Paint booth on the work bench:

Wantme to have a word at work and get you a cutoff of alloy treadplate instead of using the plywood for holding the nozzle? Thanks for the offer mate but it would need a botton hook and top bracket to hold it all in place to be welded in as well, and I cannot weld up alli Maybe I should look for a receiver from a real pump to fit.

I think the dial face should be inset with perspex face flush or slightly proud with a surround to frame it, still think should use some sort of clock mechanism, to give working hands. A possible idea for the logo might be to have the letters inside the globe, mind you I have all sorts of stupid ideas, such as, a pipe out from collar below globe with a 90 bend with the hose from it, Plus the 90 would be a flowmeter. As for reclaiming the bandana, no chance Ttfn Glenn

Today was Wheels day in Surrey, and the Autojumble threw up this gem for £1.00 It will become the top attachment for the filler pipe on the side of the cabinet. Painted silver it should fool the eye. Nicola also made me buy and wear this brass badge all day..... So bit by bit it is coming together.

This came to Grizz Towers this week while I was away. Lewis123 offered these bits out free from an aborted project months ago, loads of talk but no takers. I had scored a free wood lathe and he offered to meet up with Nicola while I was away at work this week to trade the two piles of junk. I am hoping to add the 10hp mower engine, and rear drive axle off a ride on mower to the disability scooter I recently got. I will leave them alone and try to finish some of the other random jobs I need to do around the garage and shed first. On Wednesday night I was out for a work meeting about 3hrs from home when I got a call just after 9pm from an unnamed benefactor to ask where he could put some skip treasures he had saved for me from a job. When I got home on Thursday afternoon, this lot was waiting for me. Can only say I was a happy man. Of course I had to try out the one Belisha Beacon on the dummy pump. Fit, ratio is better than the IKEA light I recently bought.

Today was catch up time. Loads of little jobs got done. I started by turning up a bit of Oak to be the base for the Belisha beacon (Google it) in the shed, forgot how much I enjoy working wood. Trial fit. Also dismantled my £5.00 petrol pump nozzle. Polished, and polished...... Trust me, it is a lot better now. Also made the rest for the nozzle out of a bit of 2 inch square tubing, and fitted, then repainted it, as well as the base, which should look like a bit of ally now. I had painted the fuel pipe elbow in gold before, but redid it in silver too. Lastly, I had also undercoated and then top coated the beacon to get it white. I do like it White vs Yellow. Next up I need to get a light fitting in there, and fit all the outside bits and decide what to do with the dial.

Once again today was bootfair first, then some garage time, doing various things, but also worked on the pump. Fitted some parts as a mock up after prepping them recently. Followed by some angle grinder action. I also fitted the dial, clear screen and cut and prepped the dummy frame for the dial. Got to wait for the silicone I used to fix the glass, and backing plate, to dry before I carry on with it. Hopefully I will be onto it by next weekend.

Missed out on posting this pic last night. Hole cut in the front. After that, I stuck the recessed face behind the perspex. In the mean time I made up a the frame to go around the face. After work tonight I went and fixed it to the front as well. Once fixed to the front I also did another coat of silver. next pic tomorrow.

Getting there. Not much to see, but fiddled around a bit after work. And of course a Photobomb on the other side. Harley...... Next up I have to figure out getting the sign writing. Looking at free hand drawing it up and hand painting..... surely, if it was done this way a long time ago, I can give it a go. Vinyl would be nice and quick though.

Been pressure cleaning the deck, furniture and repairing and painting all the stuff. While waiting for paint to dry today I also applied the stickers I had made this week by a mate on the body of the dummy pump. Other side...... I still need to draw up the design and hand paint the Belisha beacon. But am procrastinating.
