Is the lupo front bumper a straight swap, looks smoother than what you have?
I had a 'Dragon' tuning chip for my Lupo TDI and it made a big difference, both to performance and economy. Was a simple plug in device, not sure what it actually did (presume fuelling and air flow mods). Anything like that available?
Is there any useless weight you could lose? I took out the bumper reinforcer and other junk on my MX5 and surprised how much it adds up to. Other things like the towing eye could be replaced with a strap (for weight) or a screw in style (so you can smooth it over).
Perspex side windows? Fit the rear boot spoiler from the bluemotion?

I really REALLY like the look of this with the big steels. Nice! I trust you now have a set of trims winging their way to you? I finally had wheeltrimageddon at work and have found another 16" trim if you still need some. Brand new - but tacky looking - ones on eBay for £12/set and free shipping. You could barely post a s/h set to me for much less, so it made sense just to push the button. Yikes, yea. Postage is so much on that kind of stuff so worth just doing that. I'll hold on to the set I've got should you need another set somewhere down the line buddy. I'm sure we can sort something out at TAB Soon enough so I'll drop em in?

Its a bit agricultural to be chip tuned. The Lupo front end is totally different unfortunately. Reducing weight isn't really too much of a concern, you need a bit of rolling mass to perpetuate velocity.

Selling the plate to somebody with a Golf GTi 16v would probably pay for a years fuel haha.

Unfortunately you wouldn't to be able to run an S plate on an ABF engined car. Why not pray tell? An S plate cant go on a car older than an S plate, and as the Mk3 Golf was the last Golf to use the ABF, none are new enough to run this plate. EDIT: I stand corrected, later SEAT Ibizas used the ABF till '99.

EDIT: I stand corrected, later SEAT Ibizas used the ABF till '99. Shame it's not s347 abf then, as that sort of reads as 'seat abf', depending on your opinion of letters/numbers, personalised plates Etc etc. Might be close enough to offer for sale if you could be arsed Dan?

he's pulled the 1.2 3cyl TDi to put into an A8 (that's not a typo) to see what MPG he can get out of that.

Cool thread Dan, I'll be keeping an eye on this.
I'm planning to do a few bits on the 'rocco sooner or later so I'll be reading with interest. I'm no hypermiler, but I like efficiency, especially when there's no downside like a lot of the aero stuff.

If only you were closer to me Dan, my Arosa gave up the ghost before Christmas and is just taking up space here, you could've picked all the bits you wanted off it

That looks spot on. Did it end up running cheap coilovers up front and corsa shocks with cut lupo springs out back then? *n

I like your idea!! From what I've researched in MPG, its the torque that does it. In an ideal world you increase the torque figure while reducing the peak torque which I think can be achieved by a long n narrow intake manifold which if you're handy with metal pipe work could do a DIY one. Think its been mentioned before about gearing; either put a taller 5th gear or drop in a 6 speed. I've read a few times the Audi A4 2.5 TDI estate has got upto 55mpg to say of the size and engine capacity and its got a 6 speed (01E). On the aerodynamics side, I would say home made under-tray, front spoiler and rear diffuser would decrease the resistance thus increasing mpg. You could whip up a DIY warm air feed system by getting a heat resistant pipe or 2 directing warm air from the exhaust manifold into the intake, obviously putting something over the end so random debris doesn't get in??
