Some more spots from around. Was well chuffed to see another Minor buzzing around. Bit o' posh parked up behind work, I think one of the guys working at the auctions must have picked it up on the cheap. Just noticed it's not got plates on, haha. Fairlane at a tool shop I stopped in at. This one confused me a little. Sunbeam Rapier on the front, Hillman Grandure?? on the rear? o.O I liked it though. Cheers, Matt

Have actually been that busy at work recently that I haven't had many chances to wander outside to see what's parked up. Been seeing a few more classics on the road, though, which is good. Need to practice my driving-photo fu.

Ok, I really liked this one. Guy was chasing a fuel cap for it and was struggling because it wasn't listed anywhere (amazing, no?) He just wanted something to get him out of trouble until he could source one from America. I figured I'd better go outside and take a look. I was like, "Hmm okay, well I can't even see where the caps MEANT to be. Where is it, behind the plate?" Honestly, first time I've seen something like this. And I think it's freaking awesome! Only thing I'd be concerned about would be splashing fuel all up in those wires. But still damn cool! Problem he was having was the cap is reversed to everything else, lugs facing the centre of the cap instead of sticking out. Ended up solving the problem using a nice shiny radiator cap.

Heh, I don't think anyone will mind contributions. I'm starting to run out of fresh content I think. I don't have to travel far for work so it's not a very large area that my spots encompass. Saw a tidy rally Alfetta (sp?) yesterday, will post up a pic of it in the next bunch. There is a lot of classic metal floating around but it's mostly Australian tin, such as Fords and Holdens. There is a fair bit more variety if you head down Melbourne way. You should see a ton of VW buses around Byron Bay, though.

Your right, there are tonnes of VW buses, the first time I spotted a clean one I got excited. But then once i saw another 5 on the same street the excitement weaned a little! There's an orange one like the one you spotted below going around with WA plates on it, I'll try and get a pic. Its very rough in comparison. Finally managed to pin this one down! Been seeing it on and off for a while now but never when I can take a photo, let alone when I'm getting paid to take a photo. Noticed it today when picking up parts for the Minor. Had a quick chat to the owner, and he's built 56 of them! Used to do it for a living.

Some great finds there!
What's the car scene like in Queensland? I'd love to have a good look round some of these Aussie motors.
I have a 21 hour commute tomorrow from London to Adelaide. Ill be staying in Adelaide for christmas, an then should be going to Queensland early January.

There's plenty of old British tin in Adelaide, but I guess that's probably not much interest to you. Queensland has a reasonable Australian classic scene and there's a few regular meets, where you can see anything from a Mustang to a Minor Traveler to a custom A hotrod. Where in Queensland will you be, is probably the better question? It's a big place. As for those 4WD camper conversions, I think they're actually my favourite type of bus. I'm not much in to the VW scene (comes with people confusing my Minor for a Beetle ), but I think that ticks all the right boxes for me.

I'm not sure yet, I'm travelling Australia for as long as my money lasts really. I'm staying with a friend inn Adelaide, then after Christmas we will head to Queensland, then he'll go back to adelaide after a week or two as he will have to be back at uni. Then I'll be travelling on my own. What would you recommend I definitely do whilst in Queensland? (Where ever in Queensland, I'm not stuck to one place )

Honestly, I wouldn't ask me about Queensland. As a person who tries to get out of the country as much as possible, I'm probably not the best person to advise on our tourism. There's stuff to see, I'm sure. But I don't appreciate it. I've been all the way up and down the Q coast and nothing much has made me want to go back a second time, but I guess I grew up here. There is certainly interesting things to see, but I can't think of them. My mind is generally in other countries, though. I'd be more inclined to ask other British folk what they enjoyed about the place. There's plenty of beaches, forests, etc, which seems to be what people come here for. I'd go to Melbourne myself. It'll be more expensive, but there's a lot more culture there. Brisbane is really slow on progress and is only just getting to the point where its nightlife/food is worth mentioning. Over the last two years we've watched it grow a great deal, but it's still not quite there yet. But that's my view. And I've been here my whole life. Grass is greener and all that. But normally when people ask what they should do in Brisbane, "Don't" is my response.

Just wanted to say i love the photos you have put up of the cars! I'm from Adelaide way and should put up pictures of the cars i get around the area i work (might have to get a camera that works first!) There is alot of different cars here in Adelaide not just old english tat! fairly strong us car scene and local manufacturers, even catering to the Japenese builders! Depending on where your staying in Adelaide there should be something to see!

Queensland's outback is just spectacular. Mt Moffat, Carnavon NP etc. But it is way to hot to go out there at the moment. Around Brissie is Mt Tambourine and the area around there is great. Gold coast is good for a day. I like the sunshine coast much more. Sunshine Coast Hinterland is quiet nice. I like Qld and don't mind Brisbane although it is a bit of a large country village.... I am about to go for a little road trip from Brissie to Canberra, Snowy Mountains, Victoria High Country, Melbourne and than back along the coast. We have about 4 weeks. Roof top tent on the old Rodeo (Vauxhall Brava??) and of we go....We will be doing about 4500km's
Cheers

If you're heading down Canberra way, there is a really cool place to go casual caving. Wombeyan Karst Conservation Reserve. Has some really good formations and there is guided and non-guided tours and is a pretty cool area. I had some photos of cave bacon somewhere but I can't find them. There is also a pretty sweet abandoned brewery just northeast of it as well if you're in to that sort of thing. mrflibbles You should take photos of and post those cars! It would be cool to see what's around on the other side of the dust bowl. I have some more I should upload but too lazy at the moment. Edit: Found it!

Had a quick chat to the owner, and he's built 56 of them! Used to do it for a living. Did this guy really build 56 VW Double Cab offroad conversions? Or just 56 conversions of different makes? The VW Doppelkabines are as rare as hen's teeth over here (Finland) so in that case you must have a lot of them around down under if he's managed to find that many to convert. [/quote]

They used to assemble them here in Australia, so it's entirely possible that he did 56 VW Type 2s. They may not have all been dual cabs, I am thinking that a van would be just as good with 4wd.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he just meant 4WD buses in general, but I have seen a few dual cabs done this way so more than one ended up this way! I wonder how many of the ones I've seen he built... Kind of like a secret legacy... Have some nice pics to update this with but will have to wait until my internet rolls over.

Okay time for an update before I disappear overseas for a month. This is going back a while now.. This was pretty cool. Apparently has been in a few races. This has been seen before, but it has different wheels, so that counts, right? And it's well purty. Watched the episodes of Fast N Loud where they rebuild the Firebirds, and the next day, one shows up at work. Went to see a Terry Pratchett play. Stormed heaps, got to dinner late due to storms and flooding, rushed through dinner and went to the Art House to find out that the roof had fallen in. So 2 hours in traffic (20min drive, normally) for pretty much nothing. But saw this cool old International on the way back to the car. Was wondering why the bonnet was up until I walked within 2 metres of the front and felt the heat radiating off of it, haha. Some bell-end decided to 'help' me take my photo by shining his highbeams at me. -_- This was long enough ago that I can't remember which edition of SuperSport this chunk of America belonged to, only that I couldn't fit it all in! I DO remember that this was a fruitless trip to a brake and clutch mob to look for some obscure bits of rear brake setup. This showed up at work and drew my attention, as it would. Was amused by the girth of the rear wheels, which I cleverly don't have a suitable photo of. 17.5 inches or something like that. Anyway, went down the shed that afternoon for a few beers and lo-and-behold, the Camaro ends up in the shed for a bit of a tune. Another fat tyre: Had to give this guy a hand push-starting his Oxford to get him out of the carpark, haha. Took two goes down the hill! He'd just bought it and seemed pretty chuffed. Another example of too many bits of car painted the same colour/every bit of chrome possible rolled in for an auto box service down the shed. The amount of stainless hose lining and anodized ends on the thing! D: At least this one didn't have the wiper fluid wrapped in stainless line and running behind the ignition setup where it was shorting out, haha. Definitely a show car, though. The tray was high gloss polished timber slats about 30mm thick and with no rubber between it and the frame. Must have rattled horribly. Ah, well. His car, his choice and all that. Haven't seen one of these in yeeaaarrs! Holden Drover, a Sierra in it's other guise. Maybe I should look for one of these for my next project instead of a Vitara.. Might be cheaper. Back at the Art House the other night for our rescheduled viewing of the Terry Pratchett play, I spotted a Minor on the wall. *edit* just took a closer look and it is in fact an Oxford. Two in two weeks! Pretty cool old beast, but sounded like it needed a bit of tuning. These next three all yesterday which was some good spotting. Glad I managed to escape outside. Little bit of Ford action And one of my regulars finally brought in his other ride (has a really clean KE? Ford Laser). Also spotted this in the morning while grabbing some breakfast. The guy was buffing the roof, haha. I think there might have been a meet happening today. I have some more but my phone is bring retarded and not uploading to OneDrive properly so they will have to wait. Next spots will probably be from Japan! Cheers, Matt

Last little bit of spotting for the year. The rest will be from Japan which will probably have it's own thread in the new year. Bit of ratty Premier action. Had a few scuffs and rust spots but well used! And a bit of butt. Half the badges were falling off, but another example of venetians winning out. This Rambler Classic is owned by the guy I borrowed the car trailer off to get the Minors down from Mackay. I was curious to know what lump was in it as it had 660 along the front wing and usually the number is the ci. Not in this case. 660 is the middle trim range for the model. I really like this wagon, though. Might look at these when we go roadtripping in America later on. Anyway, that's all for now! Cheers, Matt
