I'm reluctantly offering for sale my late father's beloved Peugeot 405 TD Executive, which I inherited when he passed away in November 2012. It's a great car and I really enjoy driving it, but as my partner and I already have a car, and I walk or cycle to work, it essentially just sits by my garage. I've driven it less than 1500 miles over the past two years, and I would rather see it go to a new home with someone who will appreciate it and actually get some use out of it. As I understand it this is becoming quite a rare model with estimated less than a hundred remaining on the road.
It's in great condition considering the age. My father as the second owner used it to drive to work and back, and in the 12 years or so he had it he rarely took passengers, so aside from minor wear and tear on the drivers seat the carpets and leather in the passenger and back seats are in near perfect condition. The paintwork is also in great form, a tiny patch of rust on the drivers door sill, and only a few very minor dings and scratches elsewhere (from car doors etc). I'm sure you will already be familiar with the model, but to recap it has electric windows, air con, Clarion 6 CD player (with code) leather seats, wooden trim and even the original floor mats in the back. It has done 180k miles, but still drives fantasticly and no signs of problems with the clutch or such that I have spotted. In the past 2 years it's had a new battery, the two front tyres replaced and the tracking checked. I've also put on a new fuel flap cover since I took these photos, which just needs painting to match the bodywork (it's dark blue so not that out of place). The front numberplate has also been replaced since the photos were taken. It also has the Bosch pump, and the fog lights still work, which I'm told is unusual.
My father bought the car in around 2000, I think, and I have a whole folder of paperwork and service history which includes a load of the original manuals and leaflets from purchase. He had some work done over the years including a new radiator, some welding on a rusted spot in the rear drivers side wheel arch, as well as new brakes and clutch. It's MOT'd until the end of July, and it passed without any issues or advisories this year.
Now for the few bad points:
- The sunroof does not work - I believe that it jammed and the switch has been disconnected (but it does not leak!).
- The windscreen trim above the drivers window has lifted slightly in the corner but I think this is due to the rubber seal ageing, no leaks or anything that I can see.
- The drivers side rear door is disconnected from the central locking and operates manually.
- The air-con button cover is missing from the dashboard (though the button still works)
- The heated seats don't seem to work
- Small hole in the drivers seat (smaller than a 5p) where the leather has worn over time
- There is a very slight battery drain - this only affects the car if it is not run for a week or more, and I have fitted a battery disconnect for when I know I'm not going to be using it for a while. If the car is used on a regular basis, as it deserves to be, this won't be a problem.
I'm asking for £900 or nearest offer, I would like to see this car go to a good home where it will be appreciated.
The car is located just outside Guildford, Surrey, and I am looking for £900 or a good offer.
Hopefully that is enough information but if anyone wants to know anything else please just ask!
Regards,
James
