Some of you might remember my Capri, it is the one featured being built in Street Machine, in the late 90's.
I've had it since 2007, & other than changing the wheels, have mainly just used it as is.
I knew it had a few bodywork issues, not helped by sitting on my drive under a cover for 6 years.
Last summer, I had a garage built, & decided to take it off the road & sort it out.
I'm in no rush to finish it, gonna take my time & do it as & when.
Before.
All the important bits seem solid, but the bodywork is a different story.
At sometime in it's life a 'bodywork proffesional' has done a proper job on it. Filler up to 1/4" thick, all put over rust.
Drivers 'screen pillar was corroded.
One of the worst parts is the rear panel/boot floor area. Almost all filler & rust.
First job was the O/S 'A' panel. It's double skinned, & both were corroded.
Inner part repaired.
Outer done.
Indicator pod made of filler!
O/S 'A' panel next.
Small repair to O/S/F chassis rail.
Front panel/lower wing area.
Corner of front panel.
Repaired.
Took the 'screen out to get a better look at the corrosion to the A pillar.
Eeek!
The pillar is double skinned, with a strengthener at the top. All were corroded, along with the roof corner.
A tricky repair as the outer pillar is quite a complex shape, so I made it up in small sections.
Strengthener repaired.
Inner pillar repaired.
Then did the outer.
Roof corner repair.
This is the other side of the roof. The car had a Webasto sunroof fitted in the 60's (which I'm getting rid of), & this crack had formed in the corner.
Decided to make some inner sections for the indicator pods. Saved myself £80 in the process.
Next up, a few door repairs.
