My tax has now ran out and i'm not sure what to do about it really, SORN or renew it so i don't get letters from DVLA? It's been reported to police who then apparently tell DVLA so it shouldn't matter
Thanks

Leave it you are no longer in charge of it, with luck you'll get a letter saying its been picked up parked somewhere for no tax. Fingers crossed for you.

Also i renewed my insurance about 10 days ago so would it be best to call and cancel my policy and renew it if the car is found? I can't seem to find much info about what to do in these situations

Are you going to claim on it? If it gets dumped somewhere stupid like down a railway embankment the recovery fee is a fortune....

I wouldn't claim on it, I have some friends who can both pull it out using a 4x4 winch and also another friend with a flatbed

They (the police) might not give you the choice (or chance) to recover it yourself, I know of a mk3 escort that was put down an embankment and had the potential to obstruct the line - they had to stop the trains and recover it with several remote winches all done asap - there's no way they would have let just anyone work on pulling it back out the potential for disaster is too high. Also if its dumped on the road in a position where they deem it could cause a danger etc they'll just have it away before informing you.
Anyway with a bit of luck it was nicked by someone to go into town rather than get a taxi left in a car park somewhere, fingers crossed. Have you checked with the local frag yards yet?

Called about 15 of them yesterday, some have taken my number down just incase and one has checked the DVLA database they have and would inform me if i pings up on there, haven't tried any in town yet, just around the area it was stolen..
I'm hoping with it being now 5 days since it happened that it's not obstructing anything or is in the middle of a road blocking traffic etc but i understand what you mean, will keep the insurance then until i have some idea of where it is and will go from there
I also know a traffic officer who has told me to contact him straight away if i find out anything so hopefully that means he will be able to advise me with procedures as circumstances change

I may of just found it...! but now i really don't know what to do.. I feel like if i get police involved then i'm going to get charged the earth but i don't know how else to get it back, also with a claim on my insurance it will go up by £210! (I did a quote pretending i had claimed)

i'd be contacting the police. surly they would prosecute the metal yard for taking it?

Can you pull CCTV from any of the shops on the road where it was seen, if you get a reg number for the truck the police should be able to trace it. Have you been into those yards mentioned yet?

I'd be visiting one of the suspected yards as a matter of urgency, i'd imagine if they know it's nicked they won't hang around in cubing it. Even if they don't know, it will unlikely be getting a wax and valet. And if you do verify where it is then yes do get the police.

Okay so a lot has changed today, GMP were always involved as i reported it stolen the morning it went missing, I have since contacted a good friend of my family who is a chief inspector and is pushing the case and looking at any CCTV in the Oldham/Rochdale area, i'm going to see how to get a hold of the CCTV for the A6 and hoping the truck was seen heading that way up towards Oldham (Still find it strange that the car was spotted yesterday on a truck which is 5 days after it going missing...) This morning at 7:30 i got a lift to Oldham and drove around for 3 hours speaking to breakers yards, metal merchants and general scrap yards for any info, there are some real dodgy places around there and one of which i couldn't even get in contact with and they had no reception, it was just a solid wall all around with big metal gates..! I have also since got more information on the sighting yesterday - 'Beaver tail recovery truck white in colour quite oldish model between 96-2001 reg, white driver (middle aged between 26-38) on shaw road near the building yard, where tool hire place is, heading towards Huddersfield road between 2pm-4pm' I feel like i'm constantly running out of time to get it back before it gets crushed Also what advice would you give towards telling insurance? I don't want to claim on my insurance as my premium will no doubt go up and i've just had enough with stress, i would rather find the car and fix whats necessary or accept it's gone and move on, i can't stand insurance in this country but is it illegal to not tell them?

I don't know about the legalities but Id certainly contact them to inform them as a matter of course!! Its your choice whether you wish your insurer to pay out, thats something, I suppose, you can tell them when you make that call. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that, if you were stealing a car to weigh in, you would have it crushed and gone, like VERY quickly!! The idea that its been carted around on a low loader here and there some seven days after it was lifted would seem to be unlikely? The car could have been lifted to serve other purposes, don't forget to start digging in other places, eh?
