I had wanted a 3 door Escort mk3 or 4 for years and when this one got offered to me last year I could not turn it down . Previous owner had bought it in the early 90's and it had sat on his drive unused for a few months , using his wifes Fiesta intsead .
It had faded to radiant pink and was showing up a few elderly gent repairs . Front wing had a small dent that had not been filled but had been sprayed a completely different shade of red . This all polished off as can be seen in the pictures , all that remains is a dent and some showing white primer .
The rear of both sills had been 'repaired' , and the arches were showing bubbles to the lips .
The worst of the sills has just been 90% repaired . It has a new sill , inner sill repaired and arch lip replaced . Weld ground down , but needs spread of filler and paint . Where the sill is welded into the step it is welded every inch , but need the gaps welding up .
I have a full sill for the other side and another arch to go with it .
Seats , carpets , door cards and centre console are from a 1988 XR3i , inner door pulls need some attention the plastic is flakey .
Its lowered on -60mm springs and has just (last week) had some LIP escort turbo shock absorbers fitted to the front .Also had a cv joint and new outer cv boots at the same time .
Fitted with 14" citroen saxo steels and some NOS sierra 2.0 glsi hub caps .
I've realised that with a mk2 Cortina , 1965 Viva and 1950 Ford Coupe in the garage I really need a daily driver that is not another project .
