Peugeot 205 diesel over heating?

Hi all..
Can anyone give me any advise please,I have a1996 205 1.8 diesel and today the temp light and stop light came on together,the fan is cutting in and the heater will blow hot,there isn't any mixture of oil and waters at all and it runs fine with no smoke or anything coming out the exhaust?
Any advise would be gratefully received.

have you checked the coolant level?

I'd probably start with a new thermostat if the fan is working.

If there's plenty of coolant and it's not running hot, check and clean as many earth points as you can find, mainly the one bolted to the gearbox. They can cause a lot of electrical issues.

There's no temp gauge on these,just a red light and a red stop light.there are no physical signs like boiling over so do you think it may just be temp sensor?
