Anyone got any idea what the price of scrap is at the mo ? Got a golf estate shell ill need to scrap soon , But want to see if i can get some cash for it too ... South of England if its making any difference these days... Havnt got alot of yards / merchants to phone around here, So don't wanna get ripped off on the first try... Might be worth trailering to a yard if its decent enough money

Ring round & work out effort/miles vs price.
I use my local scrap merchant for any scrap (not much and not very often) I have as it's 1/2 a mile away, I would get better prices if I drove 6 miles passing through the city centre but that would be a 40 minute round trip so it's not worth it for an extra couple of quid.
Also maybe worth pulling the loom out and weighing that in seperate as you will get a copper rate on it. Last time I went it was 80p a kg for insulated cable & £2.50 a kg for raw copper.

Ok guys thats brilliant cheers,. I think ill get the local frag merchant to give me a price when i see him about, don't have alot of options for yards around here. Driving it to the yard isnt an option due to total lack of engine , box, loom, bumpers, doors, interior etc... haha.. So best i could do would be to trailer it. At least i now know what sort of price i should be offered. Cheers again .

As said before weigh the loom seperately, plus the cat(s), battery, alloys, alloy rad etc otherwise it will all be weighed the same, you may as well try to sell anything sellable seperately as well before hand

You will only get copper rate on the loom if you strip of all the sheathing and any other curse word first and considering how long that will take and the very low weight I personal think that it wouldn't be worth it.

You get a reduced copper rate for wire/wirring loom. I got 80p a kg for wire vs £2.50 a kg on raw copper, would be about £20 for a wiring loom. www.pricesofscrapmetal.co.uk/

I think stripped wiring is weighed as bright copper locally to me anyway which is way way higher

I took my AX shell to a scrap metal place a few days ago. I stripped pretty much everything off of it including the engine and gearbox/rear beam and then filled it up with all the steel stuff I could find including an old cooker.
And what did I get for my trouble, a whole £45 !
Price there was about £90 per ton.
Hot water cylinders are woth quite a lot if you remove all the lagging first, think I got more for that then the shell !
