I'm a little confused to be honest.....
I put an ad in the for sale section regarding my other halfs K11 Micra. The ad was removed by the moderators due to the fact (I'm assuming) that it is an 03 plate. Now while I accept I didn't read the ad rules and now understand that something newer than 2000 can't be advertised, I can't get my head around the fact that there are plenty of K11 Micras dotted around the forums...
This leads me to my original question what makes a ride "Retro"? Is it the year of a car or is it indeed the model? Or as I'm beginning to suspect is it a bit of a grey area? I'm quite keen to hear people's views on this as its really got me thinking! Cheers Dan

Age, your age, not the cars age!
Cars from your driving youth are now Retro, cars from before you could drive are Classic, anything older is Vintage!

...as if by magic, a rubbish new flowchart appeared: There will be some exceptions (don't expect a knackered 1994 Shogun, BMW E36 or Lucida to stay in the Cars for Sale section for long) but it might help a bit!

That is actually quite a well done flow chart. 'Retro' is a scene, albeit a diverse umbrella of one, covering many more focused, narrower model-specific scenes. I guess there has to be a cut-off somewhere; this will always be slightly arbitrary.
I don't get why this topic always attracts such hostility. To me, it is a perfectly legitimate question to ask.

It is, absolutely...... unless you read the sticky at the top labelled "SECTION RULES - READ HERE BEFORE POSTING" -
"First of all, IF YOUR CAR IS NEWER THAN 2000 PLEASE DON'T POST IT."

Hi, actually vintage is fairly well defined as from 1919 to 1930 but could I suppose be stretched to the start of the second world war. Personally I think classic started after the war and then up until, well when you can't get a lot at the factors and have to go to specialist suppliers. So that wasn't very helpful sorry.

I don't get why this topic always attracts such hostility. To me, it is a perfectly legitimate question to ask. It's not. It's been asked one billionty times before and for those of us who've been on here for yonks, it becomes dull as dishwater. A little google searching of the RR forum throws up the links I posted in my reply 3 below the OP. Let's have something interesting, before the lock...

I used to rather flippantly reply "what ever I want to read about"... but I can see how that can cause confusion. I gave a reply in here which was basically the text that used to live on the home page of the site : retrorides.proboards.com/thread/45198"What is Retro Rides all about? Now there is a question! The forum started as a place to discuss different marques of classic and modified classic cars. Defining what cars we actually discuss is a little tricky, there some general threads that ties them all together. The cars are generally a peoples car of some sort, rather than out of reach sports cars, or they are an under appreciated classic. The cars tend to be modified either aesthetically, mechanically or both. They tend to be over 20 years old. More often than not they would be what most people consider budget classics. However, they may not conform to any of these things, this is what makes what we do so interesting. So if you've got a 1973 Vauxhall Viva dropped over BBS alloys, or a 1906 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, we'll be as interested to hear about your experiences and what its like to own your car, because above everything else Retro Rides is about a love of cars." The show has a '91-ish cut off for our Retro Parking as that is a reasonable rule of thumb.. but frankly for me Retro is older than that, 70-85-ish probably is core, with a bit of lee-way around the sides. You see newer stuff on here because we love cars, well, modified cars, and a lot of inspiration can be taken from newer car modifications, conversely a newer car can be modified in a retro style. This thread made me sad. Still miss HKP being around the forum

Cars that are quite old, and interesting.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Well Thanks all for the replies.... I wasn't aware that the question had been addressed so many times before. As you'll see from my signature I'm no stranger to the more eclectic choice of car and my curiosity has been satisfied by the responses. I guess this "argument" as it were will go on for as long as this forum exists...

There's really two questions here.
Is the K11 Micra retro? With the right mods, it can be.
Are cars newer than 2000 allowed in the for sale section? No.
