Hello, Well we've flirted with the idea a few times, but it has been hard finding a perfect fit for the cars we build on the forum along with a quality of service and reasonable premium prices. However we think we've found the perfect partner with Brentacre insurance. They do a full range of insurance for modified stuff from the mild to the Q-plate worthy. They have been very nice to deal with and their premiums come out very competitively. If you say you are part of Retro Rides when getting your quote/dealing with them then you'll get a 15% discount, which is nice*. So Brentacre's Telephone is : 01792 650 933 or head to their website : www.brentacre.co.uk*Full disclosure, we get a little bit of kick back for every policy taken out with them, the money goes into a big vault and I swim through it on a regular basis like Scrooge McDuck**. **This doesn't actually happen, we tend to blow any money we make on getting increasingly ridiculous guest cars to The Gathering.

Are Brentacre willing to insure people in the UB postcode yet? I've been refused insurance by them for the past 3-4 years because of the area I live in, it's west London, hardly the crime capital of the world...

Apparently the Uxbridge post code isn't the worst but it is one of the worst car crime hot spots in the UK and is one of only a handful of post codes that have restrictions on them for insurance . Brentacre is dealing with what the insurance companies will allow I'm afraid. It might be worth giving them a call and see if any circumstance have changed or there is some wiggle room? Sorry.

I'd just like to say I'm with Brentacre, have been now for 3 years. They always come out far cheaper than anyone else even though I live in a terrible area for car insurance, and that's without any discount anyway, but frankly even if they weren't the cheapest I'd still consider being with them because the service is excellent, they really don't seem to care what car I drive, its always around the same price. With modifications, they've never put my premium up, and the people on the phone are knowledgeable about cars and very friendly and efficient, can't speak highly enough of them.

Just to throw my two cents in, I'd like to say that Brentacre were AWESOME for me. They insured my 205 GTI, which was parked on the street in London SW18, for well under £500 fully comp, and that not only included various mods but also the promise that any future mods I made wouldn't increase the premium. Pretty cool.
Also, they're really friendly on the phone and actually know what they're talking about. (They guy who sorted out my policy was something of a 205 enthusiast, in fact...)

A few of them do seem to be petrol heads actually, can't remember who I spoke to when I insured the Benz but when I said it was a 190E I remember him saying "Great cars those, always fancied one. Is it a 2.6?" Nice to know you're speaking to a fellow petrol head who understands why we drive what we drive.

What I'd actually like to do is find out who these mysterious underwriters are, they're more elusive than the yeti, as it's the underwriters that make the rules apparently. I'd like to sit down and have a nice conversation with them, then punch them in the throat for being such chodes. Insurance should be on an individual basis, not denied because I'm tar'd with the same brush as people who can't drive from areas such as southall for instance. The Americans have it right, you insure the driver, not the car. That way you can drive whatever you like whenever you want to. If you're an idiot and crash/claim a lot then you pay more, if you're a good driver, you pay less, simples.

Not yet. Emailed them back this morning, enquiring whether it's because of my location, but no reply as yet.

The best insurance scheme was set up by the communists in Hungary in the seventies; Only one insurance group, owned by the government. No fee, but the price of the petrol was raised up by a penny, so everyone payed for the insurance, who bought fuel. Even the lawnmover owners...

Thanks to this thread I phoned up Brentacre and got some very good quotes for three BMWs. One slightly modified, one slightly more modified and one extremely modified. It undercut a quote I got from another company by some difference but I was unable to add on a friend to my policy who would be a very occasional driver (as he doesn't have his own car as he lives in London), other than that I would have gone for Brentacre.

I filled out the enquiry form last night and had a phone call off a very helpful guy earlier.
They are the cheapest by far. Fully comp with business, the MX5 was £330 and the Cherokee was £420. Will be going ahead with them when my current insurance is up next month.

Another one here singing Brentacres praises. I've had trouble finding insurance for my entire life, but these guys are so easy to deal with, and far cheaper than anything else. They are brilliant with modifications and their service is spot on. An absolute gem of a company
