Can you mot a car at anytime?
Mine runs out in 2 months, can I take my car in for one now and get a fresh 12 months on it?

No. Took my MX5 in for a test as I thought it was about to run out and the system wouldn't let him as the vehicle had "over one month left".

Hi, that was probably for a continuation ticket. They must be able to override it because car fronts want to sell cars with a year on it regardless of what it already has.

I can only go by what happened to me though. Just back from dropping my car off. If you want a full mot you can cancel off the old one and start fresh, if you want to continute your old mot, then you can have it done 28 days before it runs out. Mine has about 35 days left, so I am cancelling the old one and getting a fresh one. So at least that clears it up |

What happens is, you put the details in the computer, it then sends a note saying. Warning this vehicle is too early to test any ammendments will..... something or other. Can't remember exactly. It just warns the tester it has more than 30 days M.O.T. left. We normally clarify with the customer that they still want it doing.I believe it only overwrites your current M.O.T. if it passes, so if it fails your old M.O.T. is still valid

Yes you can have a car MOT'd at any point.
I recently sold both my Van and Car and both were faultless, but had "short" MOT's (both had around 3 months left). They went to different test centres as the Van was too large for my usual test centre and they were both MOT'd, no questions asked by either. No reason why there should be. If you want your vehicle MOT'ing early, you're spending more money making sure it's roadworthy before you actually need to. I've done it plenty of times, but only to sell a vehicle as a 12 months MOT is a great selling point over a 2-3 month MOT.
