Right there are a few metro threads on here so I thought I would start one for the latest project. I got this car though Tanya on here so first of all I need to say a massive thank you! Anyway thursday night I got a message from Tanya saying that there is a 1 lady owner, garaged all its life Metro up for sale near oxford for £200 although she did not know if it was as good as it sounded. The lady had passed her away and the house was being sold and her Daughter did not want the car. Worth the punt so Friday morning we headed up to take a look. The car was at a guys house and he was at work but he left the key in it and told us to help our self. Here is what we found. WOW it really was as good as it sounded! and with only 13,000 miles on the clock. On closer look me and my mate Rusty (Who I always take to look at car as he's as picky as I am) spotted to crusty bits but they should wire brush down fine. as you can see there the floor is wet as the windscreen seal in mullered. But as the car has been garaged all its life and has only been left out for a few weeks since the old lady house was sold the floor as really good so I will get that seal done as a first job! The only other issue is the broken headlight which she did driving in to the garage one day. I am looking for a replacement if anyone has one. Anyway after looking at the car we headed over to the guys work had a chat haggled a bit and picked the car up for the sum of £150! So this morning my mate Mike has done me a huge favour and gone and picked it up with his truck. He is doing some bits to his mini van at the moment trying to get it done for L2B but hopefully will be dropping it round tonight. Only plan is to tidy it up and fit some alloys as my mate as a set of wheels which i think are this type laying around. I think they will look nice on there. But that is pretty much it. Me and Rusty will be doing most the work and if its done at time Rusty is gonna insure himself on it and take it to the IMM as he does not have a mini any more. I'll get some more pics as things happen. Thanks.

My guilty pleasure has always been a metro, especially mg turbo flavour . Love it and what a bloody bargain you have.

Had an mg metro as my first car! Was very heavily modified but still looked standard ish.
Best thing I did was get my hands on a janspeed 4-2-1 manifold If it's not got it on find an electronic ignition distributer
Those are later mg metro alloys hope you have the center caps as they were hard to get hold of 15 years ago!!
Get a copy if David vizard tuning a series engines it's a great read

Right well I made a start at attacking the car with a wire brush. Rear wheel arch was solid! So I wiring brushed all the scabby bits and gave it a coat of rust eating paint. The drivers side sill got the same treatment. That won't be too much hassle to fix but this bit is worse but a very common place for metros to go anyway. Went over the car with a sponge and tried to get the bird curse word off. Bloody hell it was stuck on hard haha. I am off to Scotland Thursday so need to get ready for that 2moz but if I can make some time I hope to go over it with a wire brush a bit more. Thats it for now. Cheers.

Not really looked at the front but the rear looks like it should just wire brush off alright.

yes you are correct it should be a 3-2-1 as the a series engine has three exhaust port, center two are a siamese port and then two inlet ports. unless of course you had very deep pockets and coul afford a KAD cross flow head.
it was nearly twenty years ago I had that car, but if you want to start getting pedantic over things that were done to it we can go down that route.

Well I forgot to keep this up to date but tyres on the car were soild from being so old. There also metric so a nightmare to replace. A fired of mine who races mini stocks had some 12 inch metro sellers in stock. Brushed painted in green dulux haha Gave £50 for the wellers and a mate who works at a tyre place quite often gets 12 inch tyres so he sorted me 4 good part worns for some beer I dropped the car at my mates farm for him to weld up the dodgy sill MOT time. Passed first time! Me and Rusty (the guy in the pic) took it for a good test run last night up too and around oxford. The car really gets some looks haha. Anyway we are taking it to Kent 2moz for the weekend for the International Mini Meeting. After this weekend we would have done more miles in it since we serviced it then its done in the last 4 years haha. Not a bad little motor. Bought for £150 Wheels and some tyres owe me £50 and a few beers. Service parts £50 Welding the sill £40 and its on the road for less then £300. Total bargain retro ride! I do want to wiring brush the underside and stone chip it all before the winter but its pretty much done.

Right well heres an update. Rusty took the Metro to the IMM in Kent and I took my clubman. Got lots of attention and comments someone even tried to buy him haha. He was totally faultless. We used him for trips out shopping and takeaways over the weekend. You can get some much stuff in a metro haha. First time using him after the weekend and it wouldn't start haha. Nothing major just points so sorted them so it ran and ordered a eletc ign

Not updated this in while, just got it back on the road after it being left in a field for the past 6 month, Found an old AA badge I had kicking about so put that on and wired in a head unit. Hooned it all the way up to Rockingham for mini world live and when I got there the water pump let go. Clearly didn't like being hacked all the way up there haha. Changed water pump while I was there and hooned it back. Used it for a couple of other things and then it wouldn't start any more. Checked earth which didn't do anything, neither did a new battery so ordered a new stater, So a new star has been ordered. I got this wheel I want to fit I just need a boss for it which is ordered Also got a couple of sticker on it and a retro 'Backflash' on the back Thats about it really, I need to order a few more bits as MOT is end of the month and the exhaust has a few holes in it. Also really want to get the sellers refurbed and painted white then I can stick the pin striping back on them.

PIcs fixed so they should all work again now.
Only other plan at the moment is to sort out the wheels as I really want them powder coated white. I even got some proper weller pin stripeing to go on them once there done.
