After a few weeks negotiating, me waiting to shift a car and general life this finally landed on my drive this morning. I bought it from a fellow RR'r and it couldn't of been an easier experience. I think we both realised that when looking around the car the ad probably undersold the car, whilst it has all the faults listed and mentioned in the original ad it's remarkably solid and has a good bit of history etc with it. Plans so far are to tidy it up and replace the bits missing and get it running right with a good service. It needs a few bits but the bodywork is very good so the rest to me is only nuts and bolts to repair so much easier!! I'd love to lower it properly and put it on some tt wheels but I need to research that first and decide which is best adaptors or hub change?? Any advice or criticisms welcomed, particularly a pointer in the right direction of a specific forum for parts.

Looks clean but most of them are, l've got a v6 coupe has to be bargain of the year at the moment, only paid 350 with T and T, use it to drive around in germany, parts over here are cheaper on ebay. Some people lower them with dreadfull results to the ride, you can still get proper lowering spring, think it was about 200 qiud for all 4. Usual issues are rubbish lamp reflectors even good ones are very poor for night driving. Speedo can stop working, and general instrument issues with corroded contectors. Oil presure buzzer issues They have accumulator like citroen for the brakes and not a servo and this can go wrong, if your brake light keeps flashing thats the sign. Rear lamp seals fail causing corroded lamp wiring and flooded boot. Top strut rubber mounts can fail and the wishbone bushes fail but you can get poly. Found mine is not bad on fuel was just under 30mpg on a run when l got it and after service new plugs and air filter and proper fuel the V6 seams to only liks 95-98 octane l now get 33mpg. Cambelt change is very easy with it a north south engine did mine in the hotel car park I find mine isn't sports car fast with old school 150bhp but the torque is good so l only need to change down to overtake if there is a car coming the other way will drive around town in top going down to near tick over quite happy.

I must admit I was sorely tempted by this one too.
Lowering is expensive on B4's, if your looking for coilies then they'll prob cost more 2nd hand than the car did.
On going to 5 stud, if you can find a set of S2 hubs, they are 5x112 and not 5x100, so I'd go down the adapter route myself

Cheers guys, I've been out looking at it this afternoon and it's blowing bits of black smoke out the exhaust but I still have good oil pressure so in putting this down to lack of use and the rocker cover leaking.
It's going to get a good service shortly and I need to try and get rid of the nasty cone filter that's currently fitted.

black smoke is normally unburnt fuel rather than oil, i suspect a good service and a thrash should sort that out

Yeah that was my thoughts too, late last night I remembered burnt oil was generally blue not black.
Once I get my garage back I'll get cracking on with it, still trying to trace parts now.
Does anyone know if springs of a 2.3 coupe will fit a 2.0?

Those springs will be fine, only potential difference would be if it came off a quatro.

Am happy your pleased with it, nice to see he didn't bother trying to put it on the other low loader.
There is a cracking website for Audi Coupe owners it has pretty much anything you could ever need to know about the Coupe with masses of information on every topic.
I wouldn't just rush in with changing to 5 stud as early Porsche, Ford, Citroen and Peugeot all have the same PCD so there is all manor of wheels out there.
Wish you all the best with it and will be keeping an eye on the progress.

Yeah so was I, he was considerate enough with it, he said it was the lowest he'd had on his truck.
What's the website you were referring to?
I'm still torn on hub adaptors, I'll keep looking and see if I can justify the expense first though.

Well things have slowly but surely been turning up, hopefully this weekend I'll be able to make some progress on it, front springs, matching lights, perfect number plate plinth, seat cable and anything I find time for. That's the plan anyway.

What height are you going for with the front?
I hope it hasn't brought up any nasty surprises for you.

Hopefully these are just standard springs, pretty sure they were from a 2.0 but could be a 2.3. Just want a bit more ride height really. No horrors yet but I've yet to take a spanner to it so who knows what's lurking underneath everything. Have you got any suspicions about it? Anything too serious I'll strip it and scrap it.

Based on what I could see I saw very little to worry me and if I had been a bit more interested and not got the urge for 2 wheels I'd have really liked to throw a 20v turbo in there.
Platform seemed solid only the sunroof but it seemed to be the frame so its an unbolt fresh one in, or just leave it closed all the time and forget about it.
Mind as I say I had naughty ideas about slammed on coilovers with EsCos wheels.

To me the only rot l've ever seen on one was the front wings. Find a number of lowering kits for sale out here in Germany where people have fitted them then found the ride too harsh so removed. I think l will just replace my spings with standard spoec and height just to bring it back to near new and replace with poly bush as they wear out. The rear lamps often (always)leak so you might aswell take them off and reseal them now while it's dry there are 5 nuts in all one hidded around the side

Yeah, I've a damp boot and a missing spare wheel well bung so sealing the rear lights is on my hit list for this weekend too.
Once I get the suspension sorted and the original wheels on for the time been I'll get sorting the little niggles out, first been the dreading sagging headlining and sunroof frame.

Today I finally got some cave time, first up was the front spring change, once the wheel was off I was greeted with this Quick swap due to the fact I didn't face one seized bolt which was a pleasant surprise next up was the rear light and number plate surround Old New Once I did that I replaced the seat cable so I now have a tiltable drivers seat, then I set about following a great link I found on an Australian audi website on how to try and get your fuel and temp gauge working, it did the trick, the gauge hasn't moved all the time I've known the car and now it's doing this, it took £15 of fuel mind Next up is to try and investigate how since I took the batt off, my flashing water light has stopped and my abs light is now on constantly? Then wait for some dry weather to strip the interior to jet wash it clean.

coming along well, your lights could be earthing problem with the dash which is common and the rectifier can pack up. My speedo packed up on the way to Germany until l stripped it and got it going again. You can get clear side repeaters from car parts 4 u only 6.50 each.

Thanks, I'm in two minds for the repeaters as I like the amber against the dark and even contemplating putting ambers in the bumper.
Are the speedos difficult to take apart? Is the mileometer a cable operated affair? Can the rectifier be taken apart/off and cleaned or is it more a case of dry solder joints?

Well... I've got no interior lights or the boot interior light, I do however have number plate lights. My boot interior light has had a makeshift feed made up for it but I've yet to trace this back to its source. So tonight with a spare ten mins I set about finding out why..... That'll be why then. A little job for the weekend, it's quite tight in there so I'm not too sure which is the best way to repair it, has anyone got any experience of this? Also when I got the car none of the boot linings were fitted, so I've done that now but I'm not sure if this is how the spare wheel should fit? There is a big piece of moulded plastic beneath the carpet with the wheel sat on it, should that be there?
