MOT Exemption ended for vehicles under 3500kg GVW about 25-30 year5s ago!!!

We had an ex Kennings LWB land rover recovery and that was registered as a mobile crane so was on very cheap tax and mot exempted......

Providing you only use it as a crane and to/ from craning about etc etc so I believe. Bit like the exemptions for fire engines etc, it only applies if that's it's sole use.

Kennings one wasn't a 1- ton by any chance? They had a few.

Hi mate,
There is usually an additional bar that hooks onto the end of the wire with chains attached which wrap around a strong point on the front corners of the car. e.g Axles.
I've not got this part but it should be easy enough to replicate... I'm just selling the Crane, built to fit a Land Rover Series 3 LWB. I've got no idea of the Law I was just told that any lifted Tow recovery was MoT exempt.

Yep 1 tonner 6 cylinder, always thought the mobile crane registration was a bit iffy and it only got loose on the roads to do a few local recoveries/ scrappers.

Fire engine exemption can be kept if the vehicle retains some fire fighting ability apparently - I checked as I was looking at Transit that was still logged as a fire engine - several different types of extinguishers on board was sufficient a couple of years ago.

Although stuff might be MOT exempted it still needs to meet the appropriate standards you just don't need a certificate for it. Showmans is another class that is MOT exempted although I beleive they have tightend up on this and you now need to be a member of the Showmans Guild or the other Association to get this changed over.

Awesome- I used to have an ex- Southern Electric 2a 1-ton, although mine had lost the 6- pot petrol for a Nissan SD33 dizzle.

Sorry for the thread hijack- still, it's keeping it bumped! Have a coulple of picces of 109" recovery truck to make up for it. No idea if this is the same type of casualty support mechanism that this one is missing, it's a TFL winch.
