Hello everyone. Thanks to the many wonderful people on here, I started looking around for, and indeed found, a "project" to mess about with, whilst trying to regain my youth........
You see, my "Brother From Another Mother" decided to get his Jetta out of storage after a decade a few months back (which I sold to him back in 2003) this has then got me back in the bad habits of bodywork and "tinkering" (I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT MECHANICAL THINGS THOUGH - God help me!)
Then, I went to the Classic Ford Show at Santa Pod, with another good mate and I'm back to being nineteen! (I'm 36 next week *Sad face*)
So...........I've just bought this (I'm only the third owner!):
After seeing the picture from the advert below just by chance in a Google image search:
Which in turn lead to an HPI check:
Managed to get it for £350. And by chance next to the car lot where it was being sold is a recovery company, who bought it back to my mate's garage for £50! It's a miracle!
Anyhoo, this was the car today when I went to see it:
Very, very "pink"!
And here's how it looked after the first stage of "treatment" that was outlined in this article: www.meguiars.co.uk/blog/?p=664 (Thanks joem83 )
Looks a bit better! Found a couple of the old "driver-style" steels that were fitted to my mate's Jetta that we painted black and put in his shed and forgot about them when he got some cheap alloys, so we thought we'd try them out ( *Ahem* If anyone has two that they don't need......... )
Plans for the car:
Lowering (Not too mad - 40mm would do......Any suggestions?)
Wheels (See above)
Tinted rear lights.
Tinted side repeaters.
Tinted front indicators.
Paint the badges black.
Pressed number plates, with surrounds.
Paint up rocker cover and air filter casing.
Rustproofing.
Unsure about colour-coding side trim and door handle inserts.
Bad points:
Rattly from cold (Engine flush already bought! - full service will be done, as well)
The clutch bite is almost off the top of the pedal (Hard to do? How expensive?)
The parcel shelf and LHS support for it are FUBAR'd (Mate said he'd get a parcel shelf made up for me at his works - result!) Few other broken bits of trim, as well
The front windows "waddle" when being wound down - they also leak from the top (Look like they don't go all the way back up?)
The header tank is almost empty...........Should I be worried? (It has been standing a few months, though)
Various bits of bodywork - bottom of the doors etc)
The leading edge of both front wings (Near the front "spoiler") broke off when we pressure washed the car! (Patent parts or respray some 2nd hand ones off ebay? - are 3rd party wings that bad?)
Oh and the driver's seat looks like this!
Need two front ones pretty badly (Rear "bench" is good, though)
Any help on the above, will be greeted with open arms!!!!
