well as my mk 1 fiesta is years away from being finished I thought I should get a cheap retro for the summer, saw this gem on the bay and after some furious bidding shes mine , or will be when I pick her up. It failed its mot recencly on rust to the sill and near the suspension, luckily I'm owed lots of favours by fellow retrorider jaminben and he loves welding. So provided its not completely rotten I'll get a test on it , lower it and a set of wheels and see how I like it

My scout leader had one of these, new, back in the 1980s, also A-reg, IIRC. Seem to remember it was quite a smooth motor, in typical Japanese fashion.

It's funny, Triumph drivers hate them but everyone else seems to be growing fond of them. PCD is 4x100 if you weren't aware so lots of options. I tried my MX5 wheels on them but the centres needs opening up and, you know, effort and all that. I've also got some proper workshop manuals and stuff so if you get stuck don't be afraid to ask!

Be fair to say she attracted alot of attention on the trip home! The clutch is knackered which wasnt mentioned in the ebay description but ben has kindly tracked one down and has also done the cambelt and made a start on the welding .
the plan atm is to get her mot'ed , slam her on the deck with some banded steels and pretty much leave the rest alone , I'm not going to even wash it , I quite like the moss! Oh and as the back box is kaput I'm thinking of replacing with a cherry bomb, retro mods.

What about some bolt-on arches so you can get more width on the banded steels?

Some good progress this week ben has done all the welding to the sills , replaced the cam belt and sorted out the brakes.. The clutch is totally shot which wasnt in the description , but ben has tracked one down and should be fitting it very soon , after thats done there's the back box to replace ........ with this

Clutch should be in tomorrow / Thursday , and then she'll mot ready. Then its the little jobs, remove towbar, recover parcel shelf , find and fit a headlining . Oh and find some wheels , not sure what wheels to go with yet . Banded steels or period alloys ? Once I have the wheels then she can be lowered.
