Ok, so in my other thread about my Mk3 Escort, I mentioned an XR2i that has come my way. This is it....
It has the dreaded corrosion around the fuel cap, but I used to be a body man, so this will be dealt with before RRG..
Bought with a blown engine, and even though I have a couple of CVH's in my stores (must start a clear out soon, it's getting ridiculous now) I decided that I wanted to make the car a bit quicker for use in the everyday world. With that in mind, I had a sift through my collection of alternative engines, i.e RS2000 I4, 1800 Zetec with RS1800 cams etc, 3 CVH in various conditions etc etc etc....(told you it was getting ridiculous) Thought about a N/A zvh, but in the end I settled on a very early 2.0 Zeta( before they were called Zetec) with a pair of high lift cams. Currently running on standard injection, with a cobbled together induction kit to get it running, RS1800 box, exhaust and brakes....
The box isn't up to the job really, so I've picked up a Escort RS Turbo LSD box to go in with a new clutch. Also planning to replace the fuelling with either ITB's (bit expensive though, money is a bit tight at the minute) or possibly a set of Suzuki GSXR750 throttle bodies, which is a much more affordable set-up... Then I can take the bonnet raisers off, I don't like 'em but the bonnet won't clear the induction pipe currently fitted.
Probably gonna change the Escort GTi alloys too, not sure they look right on this, and raise the suspension slightly... It handles like it's on rails, but is a bit harsh for regular daily use....
Keeping an interior in it for now, but gonna make a rollcage for it in the winter and strip it out..
An oil cooler is high on the list of neccessary mods, as is a better rad. Car doesn't overheat, but the fan does have to come on fairly regularly
Will attempt to keep more up to date with this thread than my Escort one, as I must admit to being somewhat lax with that one.....
