1991 Rover 416 gti, driving gloves and grandad cap optional

I've got a serious lack of mojo with my Renault 19 at the moment retrorides.proboards.com/thread/125824/1991-renault-chamade-more-tales and have decided to take it off the road, until I start to feel the love for it again.

So with that off the road I needed another retro, had nothing particular in mind, but a random ebay search threw this up.

It was up for sale at £595 or best offer, I bid £540 and it was accepted, this meant a 160 mile train/road trip to go and collect it.

Started here at 12:50 Boston

Train delay meant I missed the connecting train and had to detour here Doncaster

Finally 1.5hrs late at 18:00 I met the seller in Middlesbrough, did the deal and filled up with fuel for 163 mile drive home.

Car didn't miss a beat on the way home, drive was incident free arrived home at 21:00

That appears to be very tidy example indeed. What mileage has it covered?
I reckon it's a lot of car for the money, in this spec they have loads of equipment, are pretty nippy and have a good chassis too.

So a bit more detail on this car, previous owner has had it for the last 4 years. He used to work for Rover and had a rover sport body kit lying round that he fitted to the car. Its had part leather seats added from the 420 gti,lowered 40mm and has a Janspeed backbox. Most recent service was 400 miles ago, when bhe had the cambelt and tensioner changed. For most of the last 4 years it's being used sparingly and never in the rain as he realised there aren't many left.

My first car was a 414...lashings of walnut-esque trim and oodles of boot space, but handled like a wet cardboard box on wheels.

That, however, looks very tidy and tasty!

I wasn't sold on the later spec MG wheels initially when I swa them on the ebay advert. In the flesh though I actually quite like them. I need to sort the centre caps, 3 are red, 1 is black. I prefer the black version so need to source 3 of these.

I'm contemplating de-badging the front end, for a more aggressive look to the car. Can't make my mind up though.

It's not all smiles though, brakes are spongy at best and it needs paint on the roof and spolier.

Personally I would leave it looking exactly as it is, but tidy the paint work up a bit.
