So these arrived in the post yesterday - new crankcase breather hose and oil separator. The old pipe looked like a string vest and the catch can decided to snap in two when presented with a little grunt on a seized jubilee clip. Go figure. Fitting was much easier than I thought it would be - although I'm going to have to cut down the hose to the air filter...it's too long and has a kink in it ATM. Decided to pull off the bump strips - aiming for an extra 5-6 hp from weight reduction. It's a shame, that's a lovely shade of blueygreenyness underneath. Slowly putting bits of the engine back on... Rebuilt the front brakes...had to drill out the old brake disc locating screws and I won't be using them again! It runs! It's lumpy and hunting at idle - and wouldn't idle at rest at all initially - but but I sat in it and ran it up to temp and it was getting better. Which is definitely an improvement as when I got her she wouldn't idle at all. More than half a tank in her as well! ...and then on to the rear brakes...not too shabby really, but in for a penny and all that. Lots of rust. I hate drums and shoes. Stopped at this point surrounded by a pile of springs and rust...to be continued...

It's alive! Have you cleaned the carb out, yet? My Golf ran a little lumpy, until I fired some carb cleaner down it's neck! And I hear ya on the rear drums. I blooming hate messing with them.

Why didn't I think of that?
I've even got a Halfrauds gift card with about £15 left on it...will do that on Monday!
Might take it outside first or I'll end up with all my tools covered in soot.

Ummm... That ain't no fuel injection system I ever did see... Haha, yea, that is definitely fuel injection. You just haven't seen single point throttle body injection before then. You can flash these for fault codes with the plug under the passenger side of the dash. You'll have to google how mind, it's been years since I owned one.

Well, as the "carb cleaner" I use (Wynn's) can be used on fuel injection systems, you can still give it a go And has the Polo got an "EGR VALVE"? My Niece's Ford KA ran like poop at idle, until I cleaned it out with the carb cleaner........

My Niece's Ford KA ran like poop at idle, until I cleaned it out with the carb cleaner........ It will be fine but it won't do much. These things can just end up running like poop. My silver one was never quite right. I fitted a 1.6 spi throttle body and ported the rest of the system to match. Not sure if it made any difference mind. And no, they don't have EGR.

That looks...basic... Spent some time rebuilding the rear shoes...hate that job. Spent ages trying to hook the handbrake cables on to the new rear shoes, ended up going to the pub instead. Very little flex in these springs...my fingers hurt. But not before I'd trial fitted the 'new' wheels that have accidentally ended available. Nothing to write home about, but not too shabby. Arch-gap tastic!

Those wheels don't look half bad, Paul. Maybe spray them up in another colour? I keep wondering if there's a matte green that's close to the original colour of your Polo...........

Oh my days I've been off RR for too long and didn't notice this thread!
Subscribed. Best of luck with the build!
...and no, we had no clue about the webasto either, but a remote controlled space heater wasn't exactly high on our priority list in the Saraha.
