The car park charges were for the whole weekend not just one day..... This was a minor annoyance to the BC mob as we like to see mulsane corner, arnarge, tet rouge and the main circuit. In 2012 all the satellite areas were free and main circuit parking 15 euro for the wwhole weekend. This year, blue was 18 euro, mulsane and arnarge 10 euro and red for tet rouge 35 euro, none of the parking permits covered usage in any other car parks..... So if you wanted to visit all the total car park costs got bloody silly or you walked a lot.... I chose walking.... were there no free coaches to arnarge...??, year we went there were Vintage coaches that you could catch .............. only trouble was if you missed the last one back you had to walk............ask me how I know ...... Facel Vega are pretty much my favourite road cars, so it is hell of a treat for me to see a line up of them... what is the collective noun for Facel Vega? A Swag of Vega? A Lounge of Vega? Le Mans Classic 2014 by
[/quote] great pictures HW and the Facel Vegas are like anti-styling, everything is a contrast of styles, were the Jags & DB's flow, Vegas slab sides large wheel arches odd roof line all should make a car look appaling but stupidly it just looks so right. Great idea putting the alloy drums on the outside to aid cooling, reminds me off the monte carlo mk1 Zephyrs where they had people with buckets of water to throw at the front drums to cool them down on the down hill stages, they still ends stages with little or no brakes, you really had to have ball in those days!!

Back again. Post Ferrari Renault SplurgeAfter the excitement of the £70million+ worth of Ferraris burbling past and reinvigorated by that magical cup of tea we continued on, only now starting to get a sense of just how enormous the place is. Over from the Porsche Lounge was a rather vast selection of Renaults finest. Let us start with something we were expecting, an actual racing car Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Beautiful little Alpine Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Then it was off to the owners club stand, which as you'd expect in France had a lot of cars on... probably a couple of hundred all in, here is a selection of photographs Who doesn't want a Fat Turbo .. or a FATurbo Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Angular Alpine A310 Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Say Cheeeeese Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr When you see a line up like this... Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr It is THE LAW that you take this photo Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr An ongoing theme of French back ends ... I never planned this ... maybe it says something about me ... something not good Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr One of the best things about the event is that even though it is huge and popular it is first and foremost HUGE so the crowds are relatively spread out... it also helped that there was a line up of ridiculous Italian machinery on the road still for people to look at. Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Those people behind were looking at Ferraris... I was looking at shonky* old Renaults Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr What a wonderful line up this is... I would have taken any of them home to be honest Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr More backendness Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr And again, but on a slightly older model this time.. such lovely lines on this era of Alpine, also awesome negative camber when lowered Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Don't think I'd ever seen one of these before ... but it was a feeling I was getting used to Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I love these.. deffo future classic, particularly the speedster/wind based windscreen models Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr There was also a little Group 5 display for Renaults Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr The highlight of which for me was this beauty Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Next stop more parade racing cars and a rather special surprise... *This Renault was not very shonky at all

A Brief Mixed BagAfter enjoying the Renault selection we started to head back towards the parade line up track, with the intention of heading over to have a look at the Porsche stand, however as we were on our way we could see another set of cars heading over to line up to get out on the track, it would have been rude not to photograph them. Porky goodness Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Just another priceless Ferrari Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Erm,.. answers on a postcard to the usual address (made extra awesome due to the passenger in the back seat) Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Proper bit of British metal showing this continentals exactly how you build a pre-war sports tourer Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I did know what this was, but it has escaped my mind as I type this... Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Just a Le Mans BMW M1 passing inches away Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Oh and a Porsche 917 ... A PORSCHE 917 !! Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Anyone.. any ideas? Love the colour? Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr And on a completely different vibe Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr We then decided to give the Porsche stand a miss for a bit because there was a line up of BMWs gathering behind a rope further down the track in order to head up and line up for their laps. Insert a thirty minute wait here whilst we stood around expectantly for something to happen... Then out of nowhere (literally I have no idea where it came from) Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr BRM Turbine car. BOOM! nearly ran me over. Awesome! Insert another twenty or thirty minute wait here before the next set of pictures (which may take longer in actual time to appear here because of lunch break being over)

Odd French things! Citroen SMs! (which some would say are one and the same) Bare metal Morgan! Fiat Dino! I've not seen a single thing so far I don't like here, carry on. Even the Ferraris, which I'm normally indifferent towards, are the right sort from the "good" era.
Can't shed any light on the identities of the mystery cars though.

Eventually BMWsAfter a long wait during which a bunch of barely differentiable Porsches took to the track we finally got to see the line up that had been building up further down the inner track start to roll past. First of all though, Porsches! Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Now I love Porsches, but when you have a field of nearly 200 of the things and they all basically look the same, it can get a bit monotonous. So you only get the one shot (with a bit of a more special Porsche making an appearance later) The reason we hung around so long was because we could see the front three cars lining up for the BMW group and they were special enough for us to want to see them moving, preferably without being surrounded by people. First up is this, which has a slightly odd angle on the photo because a drunk Frenchman stumbled through the crowd and into me. After this lot went past they put up some actual metal barrier to stop drunk folk falling in front of speeding race cars... which of course resulted in drunk people jumping over the barriers and then being able to get over the other side and being trapped in the road with the cars... Anyway this here is from 1939 a BMW 328, where it came 5th because the British are better than Nazis (and the French cheated by having the incredible Bugatti Type 57 and showed everyone a clean (and pretty) pair of heels) Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr As counter point to the historic was a little slice of modern BMW motorsport Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr This counts as a BMW because engine (apparently) Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Ahhh so iconic Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr It must be awesome to head round Le Mans with your mates in the back Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr See... chuck the family in, hit the track, good times for all Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I love these little cars, a reminder that BMW used to do more than just the midsize cars they are known for now Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I have such a love for BMW 2002s, they pretty much always look right.. In the mean time, have something that shows how relaxed the whole thing is and a fundamental difference between French and British motorsports venues : Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr

Wasn't expecting that Rover BRM I'd love to hear that trundle past Just been reading up on it. In the 1965 Le Mans 24 it was driven by Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart. Despite a knackered engine it finishing tenth overall, seventh in the prototype class, and was the first British car. I've already been checking the ferry costs for next year

Keep the pics coming, although it makes me feel all the worse for not being there!
I understand your awe of anything Ferrari from the 50's and 60's, I feel overwhelmed everytime I see one. I had such a moment at the Tour Auto this year, I was actually shaking.

Auction SightingsI was unaware of the auction happening at Le Mans Classic, if I had been aware I'd have bought some spare change with me*, as it was I came empty handed so could only have a poke around outside. Whilst there was plenty of stuff on offer it was all rather closely packed and a bit tricky to take photos of with people milling around, so you'll only get a few photos. Nice to see a Honda S800 in with all the exotica floating around at the auction Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Another of those brutal breezeblocks Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr A very very pretty Lancia Appia Zagato Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr My pick of the lot though was this, particularly appealing as we are currently in the process of selling our house and have no where to move to yet. Tempted to just buy this and drop out... Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I think the next serious project I buy will be from an actually face to face auction (rather than ebay), there was something pretty cool about them, a buzz in the air. As you can see above the BMW pavilion had disgorged its content in order for it to parade around the track, however they had left one car in there which made it a perfect chance to get a good photo. Sadly it was me taking the photos so what you actually get is this Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr And rather more annoyingly this Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr The security guard wasn't moving... and I thought I'd just photoshop him out later... but it turns out I'm really lazy, and it wasn't that good a photo anyway. All Of The Porsche Stand That I PhotographedLe Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr There were a lot of them, they all basically looked the same. Except this Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Which was nice to see parked up with everything else. With that little lot out the way it was time to find something really special. *would not have actually bought any money as the entry list is bonkers.
