Morning everyone,
so, following the melting of the piston in cyl 3 on my 1300 crossflow, I have sourced a 1600 711M engine. currently the head is off, the oil pump is removed, the water pump will be replaced by a new one, and the fuel pump will most likely be taken from the 1300 and used on the 1600.
The next step, and one that is a little new to me, is to pull the sump off, and then whip out all of the guts of the block (crank, rods, pistons, camshaft etc). now, it has been a very very long time since i have done any of this, and even then it was on very large marine diesels.
so, any hints or tips? ive been looking all over the net for tidbits of info, but want to make sure i havent missed anything.
one thing that is bothering me is that there is a bit of a lip at the top of the bore (unknown mileage engine) and i am wondering if a rebore might be in order? if so, does anyone in the Bedfordshire area have any suggestions for where to get it done? and approximate costs?
if it does need reboring, i guess i will need larger pistons/rings? how will i know what size to get?
finally, i gather that the mains and bearing shells may need to be replaced depending on condition? again, how will i know what ones to get to replace them?
many thanks, and sorry for all of the questions. any and all advice welcome this will need to be done on a bit of a budget, so cheaper options are preferable
thanks,
Lee
