Hi, new here but long term car fanatic with a classic mini, mk4 golf (the sensible car) until recently a Volvo 240 estate.
I will be getting a Vauxhall midi ambulance this week. Its not been on the road for a few years and there seems to be very little on the web in the way of parts suppliers and info. Was wondering therefore whether anyone here is familiar with them?
do they share parts with other models? Eg frontera, troopers, rascals ect?
do they have common faults? It will have the Na
2.2 diesel :-0
any advice welcomed, plans are to leave it as an ambulance outside and convert in to a camper. t

In the brief time I was looking for one of these (I gave up in the end) I discovered that the Midi was simply a rebadged Isuzu Fargo built at Luton.
Other than that, I know little else

I've got one mines a 2.4 diesel and it's surprisingly nippy and nice to drive once you get used to the column change gears! The column change is a common problem as mine seems to have no springs in it so it doesn't return to the middle but once you get used to it it is fine! They are prone to be being very rusty, especially door bottoms and along the roof guttering. I got mine as "spares or repairs" needing a clutch master to be repaired and it was squealing really bad but that turned out just to need belt tightening so 3 hours work it was great!

It shares parts with 2wd Vauxhall Brava TF pickup, but these have all been exported to Africa so parts are rare/expensive, some Fronteras have Isuzu diesel engines some have Vauxhall/Opel engines. I fancied fitting a Vauxhall 2.0dti engine from a Frontera to my 2.0 petrol midi, but the bellhousing pattern is different. The Frontera uses a similar MSG gearbox but I'm unsure whether the bellhousings are interchangeable. Balljoints, bearings are all out of the GM/Isuzu parts bin like these and these. They did build a 4wd one which I imagine would have been based around Brava/Trooper running gear. The Isuzu engines in these vans are bulletproof as long as you keep the cooling in order. My parents had one with 167000 miles on it in the 90s. I think I've seen a picture of the a Midi ambulance on flickr somewhere wonder if its the same one.

That's exactly the sort of info in after thanks! Not picked up yet but will try and start a build thread. I can see getting parts and restoring being a bit tricky but oh well, let the challenge commence!
