I'm considering selling my beautiful 840ci as it stands. I originally purchased it with the intention of rectifying a couple of minor bodywork issues and using it for a while and then selling for a bit more money, but due to an ever-increasing waiting list for customer work, it's been sliding down the workshop pecking order, but if it doesn't sell I'll hang onto it and get it done in time.
Car has covered 96,000 miles from new, which will increase a little as I'm using it daily (it would be rude not to!)
4 Previous owners, it spent most of its life under the ownership of a gentleman who has been a director of The Rover Group, British Aerospace and Barclays Bank and wears a nice private plates, which could be spaced to read 840 NH (NH being the aforementioned's initials)
Currently MOT'd until October, although I'm happy to arrange a fresh 12 months at the cost of the MOT.
Taxed until the end of December
Calypso red with light grey leather interior
Always very well maintained and cared for from new. It did have an original service book with 8 stamps, which I saw myself as I knew the previous owner, but unfortunately he mislaid it. However the history file that is still with the car contains invoices to back up some of these stamps, more invoices for more service and maintenance work carried out since, plus it has all the documents regarding the BMW extended warranty which was carried out every year up until 2006 when the car was 10 years old and this relied on the car being serviced by a BMW main dealer, so proof of service history is all present even if the original book is not.
Recent expenditure extends to four matching, quality tyres and full refurbishment of the alloy wheels. Also two new Yuasa batteries which were very expensive and various fuses. This car is fully loaded with lots electrical gadgetry, all of which works apart from the electric sunroof, which I will have a look at if I get chance, but with the 4 pillarless windows opened I've never been too bothered by not having a sunroof working as the car is so airy as it is.
The car is very clean and tidy inside and out and drives without fault. The car pulls like a train and the kickdown works exactly as it should. The handling is exceptionally tight and it rides really well. The driving experience is effortless.
Apart from the sunroof not working, the only issue with the car is some jealous type has keyed the car in a couple of place. One down the passengers side of the car and another on the centre of the bonnet.
The car is priced accordingly on here and has to be the cheapest 8-Series that is mechanically sound, 95% perfect electrically and virtually perfect on the body aside from the vandalism. In terms of bodywork it needs the side and bonnet sorting. There's a tiny area of corrosion on the very corner of one of the doors, like a chip which has bubbled up. Other than that the body is sound and if those bits were painted the rest would machine polish up and look a million dollars, but it's attractive as it is aside from the scratches and people stop and stare wherever the car goes. £3250 for an 8-Series that needs nothing, just wants a couple of minor repairs has to be a snip and a very sound investment.
The car is very original and the original first aid kit is still covered in its original cellophane wrapper.
It comes with the handy computer, which flags up any faults like an onboard diagnostic machine, shows outside temperature, fuel economy, range, average speed and all kinds of programmable data and all works. Around town and mixed driving seems to return 20-22mpg, which can rise to around 26-28mpg on a run, so fuel economy isn't too bit for a big V8 really. Obviously you can get that right down if you want to nail it!
I've not offered this for sale anywhere else at the moment and I'm only looking to move it on as it stands as I could do with raising a few funds to purchase a new and expensive Brian James tilt-bed trailer and 4x4 pick up truck to pull it due to expanding business requirements.
If anyone wants the paintwork doing and the sunroof working, I'm more than happy to get the car perfect, but for a revised price, but it could be an opportunity for someone to buy a very nice 840ci at a knock down price, enjoy it over summer and get it up to 100% over the winter, but I'm happy to quote anyone a price on the paintwork at any point in the future and make sure it's a good one!
Anyway, a few photos. Can take more if required. Cash sale preferred, but would consider cheaper cars or items in px.
Cheers
Mike
