Ive just joined so thought I'd whack up a build thread although lazily copy&pasted from another forum!
Had this car since Sept last year when I saved it from a local scrapyard.......
Well I thought Id start a thread now that work has actually begun!
Had a fair few track cars but after getting rid of the K20 Saxo I decided I wanted an EE/D/F. Always wanted one since my mate had a VT back in 98.
For those of you who didn't see the car in my newbie thread, I was looking at saving this thing way back in April but the scrappy wanted too much for it. Long story short I ended up getting it a month or two ago.
Its a '91 ED7 with 109k, in pink lol. It was without wheels, smashed rear quarter and no air filter. I could see it needed a bit of welding but nothing major so thought Id go for it. Long term it will be engine swapped (I have form for swaps with the K20 Saxo and B16 Metro lol), but for now I'm concentrating on getting it tested and fixing all the bits.
Few pics...
So far Ive stripped out the carpet seats etc so we could check to see how solid it is and tbf its a lot better than I was expecting.
Both sills need doing but the arches are fine.
I got it started last week and in true Honda fashion it did't disappoint! Not even been SORNED since 2007 so was expecting a seized motor but....
Plugs out and soaked with WD, left for a few hours then put it in gear and rolled it forward to check it was free. Bingo.
Plugs in, new battery on, splash of fuel..... not even a quarter of a turn of the key and hey presto! Fired into life no probs!
Checked all the electrics and everything works. Sunroof is a bit sticky closing but nothing a good clean and a grease wont sort out!
Fitted the new rear quarter I got (Thanks Tom-Rota) and its now water tight again!
Up on the ramps and with a quick 5 min check, solid all round apart from sills I mentioned. It has rear discs which I wasn't expecting....is this standard on an ED? ANyway, nice new brake lines, all the shocks are fine just looks like Ill need a couple of bushes.
Can't believe how thin the RARB is lol!!
It has no exhaust other than a pigeon S*!t covered manifold so going to try and make my old DC2 system fit...... its daft loud (hence why I took it off) but will do for MOT.
Air filter is missing completely but again, I had an old box of B-series bits so going to fudge something together for test.
I'm not going to spend too much on anything to do with engine/box/hubs/brakes as my plan is to by a DC2 and swap everything over I can.
Mate had a set of Ph1 Clio Renaultsport OZ wheels in his unit so tried them on.....I was pleasantly suprised and with a coat of black/anthracite they will look ok for now I think!
Oh nearly forgot, bought a rear filler bar off vtecmossy (top service ta) as mine is rotten around the key hole so thought it'd be easier to just get a new one than repair in such a tricky area.
So jobs to do other than MOT prep are:
Machine polish to try and restore as much as possible (if it looks curse word Ill just paint the whole thing)
Fit bumpers
Decide on wheels
Service brakes, new pads discs etc and bleed up....don't think they are seized
Exhaust
Filter
Source Bumper Indicators
Cambelt change
Few shots of during the build....
Brand new sills from Euro Car Parts
And how she stands today....
Cutting the thread down to its bare bones, after passing the MOT (failed on rear brake balance only!) the car wasn't running very well and only made 111.5bhp at a local rolling road day.
Turned out that the cambelt was a tooth out!
Sorted it all out and she made a more healthy 136.5bhp at the fly.
Still miles away from perfect but a lot better than being sat wasting away in a scrapyard like she was 12 months ago!
C&C welcome
