Ok i'm a little bit tight - born in Yorkshire, brought up in Derbyshire - its genetic....Whats available as , looking at the price of a new ready built MS is a bit shocking to me anyway.
What i'm trying to do is sort out a system for my turbo LPG pinto, I would like to have ignition control initially but if old school fuel control technology (blow through LPG carb) proves to be a problem I'de like to be able to control an LPG injection system with the same bit of shiny new kit, as a bonus switchable maps would be nice so I could run on petrol if needs be. Would like a knock sensor so I can retard the timing as required.
At the moment the pinto is running the standard ford elctronic dizzy only so I've got a blank canvas when it comes to adding on sensors etc
I've seen the Link ECU's as well as the FreeEMS kits, and there are quite a few MS2 (i think 2 anyway) copies that I found out there.

MS1 would do most of what you need. In kit form from diyautotune.com is as cheap as a programmable ECU gets

Doesn't have a knock sensor though. Iirc they suggested using a stand alone one from a Saab.

looking at the price of a new ready built MS is a bit shocking to me anyway. They key is to build it yourself An Ms2 unassembled kit is currently ÂŁ163 on Diyautotune. Whilst Ms1 is the cheapest way to do it, theres only a few pounds in it and the extra features of Ms2 are well worth it. One of the good things about building it yourself is that you can taylor it to your specific build, building in all the extra features you want and leaving out those that you don't. You can also build it to make sue of whatever type of sensors you want to use, for the ignition system you could go as simple as getting megasquirt to read the hall/opitcal signal from your dizzy and then firing the stock coil appropriately, or you could choose any type of crank sensor you like, fit a trigger wheel and then fit a more modern wasted spark coil park, or even fit a coil on plug system. The flexibility is kinda endless. On the downside obviously building it takes a certain amount of time and patience and you're bound to run into a few teething problems. It's when you hit the problems you'll be glad you went for a Megasquirt kit over any of the only sort of DIY ecus, the support forums are good and theres so much information out there to help solve problems that you just don't get with other systems.

I've got an MS1 with squirt and spark on it I might be tempted to sell, have the extra ignition driver and a coil pack so you can keep or ditch the dizzy as you want too...and a set of almost new R6 throttle bodies MS2 daughterboard is easy upgrade if you really must have knock control.

I built my own MS2 - as long as you're organised and methodical, and fairly good with soldering, you should be fine. The instructions are very good, and the online forums are excellent.
It took me a week of evenings to put it together and figure out what circuits I needed for the MX5.

Hi, have PM'd you (hopefully), is it set up with TPS or a MAP sensor? Thanks

Interesting thread this. I have a related question: I'm fairly sure the stock management of my Maser could be improved upon, and Megasquirt could be interesting. I have absolutely no experience of soldering, electronic ignition/injection, turbos, etc, and this could prove a big obstacle. Could a MS install be built outside the car and tested on its own? Could it control the turbo pressure as well?
I'm sure I'd make a terrible mess of it, but it'd be a nice upgrade to the engine with better possibilities for diagnostics and performance, whilst still looking entirely stock...

you can get most MS models in kit form or pre-built if needed, and a DIY-assembled kit can be tested outside the car with the MS stimulator board.
improving on stock management in terms of power is easy if you can increase turbo boost or otherwise increase flow for naturally aspirated - then you map to add more fuel where there's greater mass of air going through the system. Improving overall driveability (especially a smooth idle) in all climate/temp conditions is much harder.
For dual petrol/lpg setup - MS2 had a dual table software, initially written to run water injection on one injector bank and fuel on the other www.megamanual.com/DT.htm so batch-firing each set of 4 injectors could equally run petrol on one and lpg on the other.

Its a megasquirt 1 on the version 3 pcb so easily upgraded if ever needed. at present it is set up just as ignition however this can be changed in the software. in brushed stainless case comes with relay board (a must for diy install really)also in case. Loom professionally braided from ecu to relay box. And usb interface cable also have an extension lead so no resting laptop on places they don't fit. I payed 250 for it, that's all I'm after.
