This is my current weekend car that I found locally in Sheffield earlier this year. It has been featured in another thread but I thought I would create one for it.
I was actually looking for a late MK2 GTi with 5 doors, electric windows and PAS but once I saw this early MK2 GTI that has 3 doors, wind-up windows an no PAS I had to have it.
It is a one-owner car from a deceased estate that had been really well looked after and garaged from new. The car has covered 106K miles but looks like it has done a lot less.
The late owner cherished the car and kept every document, tax disc and MOT. Even the tax disc holder is the original.
It looks like no-one has sat in the back seats and the boot area is literally like new with an unused space-saver spare and tools.
The car had been stood for a few years apart from being driven to Gilders for its MoT and had a few issues from lack of use.
I have changed the timing belt and overhauled the gear linkages to make it nicer to drive.
The VW specialist who carried out the work recognised the car as he had MoT'd it when he worked for Gilders in 1996.
My plans are to keep the car as original as possible and use it regularly - weather permitting.
I recently took it to a classic car show where it was voted best in show which is a credit to its first owner.
