Overview
This is the private sale of one of my own vehicles, the limited edition 'Sportline' model of the MK1 Golf GTI Convertible. This special edition is becoming more sought after by the day. Being a 1991 H-registered car, this is one of the earliest examples and comes in original form.
The car offers a faultless drive and benefits from much money being spent on the engine and running gear in recent years.
This is an appreciating classic that can either be used daily or kept tucked away for those special occasions.
The detail of this car is as follows; (With plenty more photos available here - www.yesterdayscars.co.uk/available-cars/mk1-golf-convertible/)
History
The car was registered on 10th June 1991 and I am the 9th owner, having acquired the vehicle in March of this year.
Most MOT's are present from 1996 - 2004 and then 2010 to date, except for 2012, although mileage for that year is recorded on the current MOT sheet. The handbooks are present with the service book stamped up to 2004.
There are a lot of receipts for money spent by both myself and the previous owner which totals quite a substantial sum of money, with all work detailed below. A spreadsheet is available to be emailed to you if you wish, highlighting my expenditure and work carried out on the car.
The car comes with 13 months MOT - expiring on 19th August 2015 (no advisories) and road fund licence expires on 31st August 2014. The car has covered approx. 138,000 miles and is HPI clear.
Body
Overall the bodywork is in excellent condition with no rust issues underneath or on the body itself. The Flame Red paintwork polishes up nicely but it is not concourse. There are stone chips on the bonnet and there are two small spots on the nearside wing top and one on the passenger door swage line where the paint has polished through to the white primer over the years.
There is also a small, shallow dent in the centre of the boot lid below the number plate. The metal is not creased and the paint is not even scratched so a body shop should be able to remove this. I'm being picky and the car does wear its age very well indeed.
Everything externally is standard and the original Sportline decals are still present.
Mechanical/Running gear
This car has a very strong engine that runs sweetly and starts from hot and cold every time with no issues at all. The previous owner had the cylinder head refurbished and new injectors fitted - it really does run very sweetly indeed. The engine bay is clean without looking overly 'dressed.'
The chassis is equally tight, with the previous owner installing a Weitec -35mm suspension kit, Eibach ARB's, polybushes and a front, lower strut brace. This all helps to keep scuttle shake to the minimum and gives a nice, compliant ride.
In my ownership, many little jobs have been done to finish the car off and keep it in top condition, including new discs and pads up front, some new brake lines and I have just in the last few days had the fuel tank replaced for a new, galvanised one as the old one was leaking. At the same time some fuel and brake lines were replaced at the rear. The filler neck was not at all rusty.
The car runs on the original BBS RA alloys which were freshly refurbished approx. 1,000 miles ago when I purchased the car and these run on as new Pirelli P6000's.
Interior
The car is still fitted with the original Sportline interior with Recaro seats which are extremely comfortable. The interior exhibits very little wear and none of the usual bolster wear on the drivers seat.
The roof is a fully functioning electric/hydraulic Mohar one fitted by the previous owner. It does not leak. The tonneau cover is present to cover the roof when it's folded, which includes the auto shut-off system so that you can't close the roof when it's covered. Also fitted is a Bodi XL wind deflector which does a supreme job of eliminating most wind buffeting when you drive with the roof down.
Everything in the car works, except for the MFA. The clock works (excuse the incorrect time in the photo, it's re-set now!) but the trip computer of the MFA does not cycle through. Occasionally it will but assume it doesn't work. I have tried another stalk set but this didn't sort the issue.
The car is fitted with a Toad immobiliser, installation certificate is present and this works without issue. There is also a Sony CD player with AUX input on the front which overall gives excellent sound quality through the factory speaker mounts.
Summary
This is a really great car and I've personally enjoyed putting some miles on it, especially when the sun has been out. I'll be sad to see it go but am sure that the new owner will get many miles of happy motoring with it.
There's too much to list on the work that has been carried out, so if you are seriously interested in the car then please contact me for further information.
