Has anyone attempted or know of a car that has had pillar less coupe rear mech fitted to it to allow rear windows to be lowered. Like mercy or opel commodore escort cabriolet etc.
I'm interested for my manta a series in the future when I get to that stage

i havnt seen any build threads on turning coupe rear windows into roll down ones but there must be some for a home made convertible on the web somewhere, i just cant find any right now. i would think the main problem you will encounter is how to fix the mantas window to the window mech as with a roll down window the glass is longer at the bottom where it goes into the door or wing so it can be fixed to the window mech. if i was going to do this i think i would be looking for a convertible with a very similar sized window and remove the window, runners, all the mech bits and also cut of the top of the rear quaters where the window seals sit and transfer the whole lot into the manta then you will have to fill in any gap around the top and back of the window to make the opening fit the new window. It would look awsome when done as long as the doner window is a close match to start with so that you don't have to alter the shape of the window opening too much, alternative it could be possible although probably expensive to get some one off windows made up to match the manta windows with the extra lenght so that it could be fixed on to a modified wimdow mech from another car.

You are in my wavelength here, I like the idea of taking the while aperture from a car. The closest I can seem find at the moment is an old jag coupe, but will be expensive. Custom glass is out of the question for costs, and using the manta glass as it has a hole in them for the opener

a cheap option might be the mk2 astra convertible, seems to have a similar sized window and readily availible but may take some modifying to work well with the mantas lines. a more expensive option but one that looks like it might work well is the bmw e9 its hard to tell from pics how close the size and shapes of the two cars windows are without having them side by side. there is a bmw e9 in a yard down st james in northampton if you want to measure one up too.

Custom glass is out of the question for costs I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that option bud.. Dez, how much did the 2 panes you just had cut for the Hudson cost?
