Basic fan wiring here or google electric fan wiring, I'll get under me truck hood this sarvo but if you have the pump wires they are easyly traced or have you chopped them about already? even then just join up the matching wires, it is basicly a small sub loom, unwrap the loom to the inner wing on the sierra to get it sperated but i'll check anyhoo

Hey, I've got the glow plugs working and the car runs! Just need to wire the fan up and sort that extra pipe from the side of the engine to go straight to the radiator and everything will be working fine Runs beautifully too, I'll get some pics up when I can. Thanks for all the help, wouldn't have been able to do it on my own lol

Just wondering how to get the Rev counter working? I know it's a wire from coil but not sure where it goes to with the diesel in...

are you using the petrol rev counter still? you need one for the original diesel or an adjustable one to account for the number of alternator windings and pulley ratio.

This is brilliant ive wanted to do a diesel capri for years and one day i will be in a position to do it. Just curious how you go about registering it? does it need an sva or some sort of test like that or just tell the dvla and insurance?

You just have to tell the DVLA and possably (most likely) provide a letter from the garage that did the work, IE knock up a BS invoice from a garage that's in your head and send it off with the V5 changes.

I'll get a vid up of it running eventually, just making everything look nice under the bonnet.
Also I cant use the sierra rev counter cos it didn't have one, so i'm not sure how to get that reading right...
Other than that, its running great.

Would a mondeo td rev counter do it as their basically the same motor? Not sure how it would look in the Capri dash as a single unit but I'm sure it would be possible to pull the gubbins out of the mondeo one and solder it into the Capri clocks hence keeping the dash look the same?

If you wanted to make the Capri rev counter work you could try using a 'non contact proximity switch' off ebay etc. I've done similar in the past

they work by passing a bolt head or similar over them. 3 wires to connect, positive/negative and a pulse to the rev counter. normally the tacho takes its signal off the coil, replace the coil with the proxy switch.

Would you be able to send a link for one mate, cos I have no idea if what I'm looking for is right And would you be able to let me know how to wire it in properly?
Cheers

Hey guys been a while, I have had to shelve the Capri for a short bit I.E until it gets warmer (back is ****ing killing me, thanks to a stupid tart who can't drive) I did see somewhere someone put up a picture of how the engine mounts were fitted and am now unable to find it. After reading on another Capri site about using the 2.8I x-member for the PAS, as It is looking like I will need PAS now I was wondering if I can use the 2.8I X-member for the diesel conversion, as the 2.8i mounts are set abit further back as are the mounting points on the diesel engine (so I read). So if anyone can get some pictures up that would be a great help.

I've just bought a 2.8 crossmember and PAS steering rack but this is the first i've heard the mounts are set further back. Although I can't see it being a problem myself, as the mounts for the pinto are being pulled slightly back as it is with the diesel in. I won't know for a while as i don't know when I'm doing the crossmember swap, cos it's bloody freezing these days and my radiator is leaking so i've gotta sort that out, which is another £120, after the water pump i've just had to buy :/
Apart from that, the enging is running sweet enough, does sometimes seem abit sluggish in the lower gears but then other times it feels fine. Bit weird, my dads 1.8td mondeo seems to pull better and i would have though that was heavier. That is a mk2 mondeo though with a slightly newer version of the engine and an intercooler, but i wouldn't have thought it would make that much of a difference?
I'll have to get some pics up when i change the crossmember though. I just need a mondeo power steering pump, longer belt for the water pump to run it and a resevoir for the fluid and it should be all good, but we will see.

You'd be surprised how much difference an intercooler can make. Even driving on a cold night makes my Landy smoother and more responsive; and that's with an intercooler.

I agree on the Sierra TD as the easiest fit etc., but as a left field idea, what about a BMW 2.0 litre Diesel engine, loads of them about, buy a complete car and they come in loads of states of tune up to 170bhp and 370 lb/ft of torque. They are 4 cylinder so not too long, mostly aluminium to keep the weight down.
Used in 1 series, 2 series, 3 series and 5 series with manual or auto gearboxes.
Just an idea.
