I've decided I need to thin down the number of cars I have in order that I might actually manage to complete the work on at least one of them!!
This is my '97 Mazda MX5 Dakar Edition. First off (so you don't get too excited) the wheels in the photos and the hardtop are not included in the price, but can be bought if we agree a price.
The car has Tax til the end of October and MOT until the 2nd September. I am currently using it every day.
£300 is the price and there is no further negotiation on that - obviously that is cheap which reflects the fact that some work is needed on the car.
I'll start with the good bits - The engine and drivetrain are extremely good and have never missed a beat in the year I have owned the car. Oil pressure is good. The engine gets up to temp quickly and stays rock-solid in the middle of the gauge. The heaters work well. The gearbox shifts well and no excessive whining from gearbox or diff. Being the Dakar edition it has a chrome rear strut brace, chrome sill plates, blue piped grey leather and unique alloys (not the ones in the pics, but still quite nice - google mx5 dakar and you will see the wheels that come with it).
The bad bits are fairly extensive, but then I use it daily and it does the job I want it to - get me to work and back with maximum fun factor, total reliability and reasonable economy :-)
I roller painted the car NATO green when I bought it to make it look a bit less 'girly'!! The front plate was a stick-on job and I painted over it - it's been that way ever since :-D I replaced the column stalks due to a faulty main beam switch and the new set didn't have the horn connection, so it does not have a working horn. The suspension rattles like hell - it's the anti roll bar drop links which need replacing (offside rear has no rubber left in at all!) not a hard or expensive job. Also not safety critical, hence why I never got round to doing it! The glove box lid has been snapped off. The zip is broken that zips the back window into the soft top. I never got around to refitting the steering column shroud after doing the stalks - it's in the boot! No stereo. driver's seat it torn on the side bolster. The included Dakar Edition wheels are ok but not mint. Toyo tyres all round but all are on or near the legal limit. There is damage to the nearside front wing. The bonnet was replaced for one from an accident damaged car so not a great fit (I bought the car from a friend who replaced it with another MX5 and he kept all the best panels for his car - this one has never been in an accident). Both rear arches are getting pretty rusty, especially the nearside which has had a very bad repair where it looks like a replacement panel has just been bonded over the top, filled over and painted!
I think that is about it - basically it's a scruffy but useable MX5 and those who know MX5's will know they are immense fun to drive and not much else matters!!

I'll post pics in just a sec.
