The tow vehicle used in the theft was a ford transit flat bed with smiley front. The Escort was in a covered car trailer when it was stolen. From the CCTV footage, according to the owner Colin the Transit looks burgundy in colour

Am I going to be the little boy who shouts out that the Kings got no clothes on? Are these owners REALLY taking every precaution and making all efforts humanly possible to stop their cars getting lifted? The amount of these cars getting pinched is remarkable yet, so it appears, they are being taken with consumate ease. Are trackers being fitted, mahoosive locks on garage doors, trailers chained to huge eyebolts cemented deep into the ground? These aren't pogglers, they are very expensive machines yet, it would seem ( and I'm happy to be corrected) they are being pinched without supreme efforts being made to do it. This isn't criticism, I'm just curious as to what owners are doing to protect themselves from human pondlife taking their pride and joys away from them.

This is a rally car, they don't tend to have trackers fitted.
People have taken the precautions as you have mentioned. The RS1800 that was stolen last year was in a secure locked garage with a post cemented into the ground & a chain over the rear axle. The thieves not only stole the Escort, they dug out the post, cut the chain & stole them as well!

This is the Transit used to steal the Escort. There was also a black vauxhall zafira and possibly a white transit towing an open trailer

The covered car trailer has been recovered minus the car! The trailer had been dumped at a farm in Walsall, the car is still missing!

Taken off the trailer - that was being looked for - and loaded into a container, surrounded by other stuff and out of the country by now.
I'm afraid that'll never be seen in one piece in this country again. Far too noticeable and traceable.
Old Fords do seem to be the prime targets just now.
Hopefully the owner will receive some good news and prove me totally wrong. I genuinely hope so.

To me thats a indication that thieves look at social media and forums , they new they had been seen so dumped it . I believe these go to ireland or are broken and sold as parts , and then the no id shell 6 months later .
Fecking scum . If you think Fords going missing is bad , you should see how many minis get pinched . Got to be 75 in less than 2 years .

Having watched a programe called Grand Theft Auto recently, the thieves are using jammers & scanners to block & find trackers. You should see how organised they are!
But someone taking a car so unique is bizzare to me.
