Ok, while some consider any deviation from the traditional Halibrand replica wheels to be an abomination of biblical proportions, I'm actually not that keen on them, also my wife detests spinners (and stripes for that matter) so I'm considering alternatives. It's not trying to be an authentic 427 replica, but it does have sexy 5" stainless side pipes. I'm currently thinking of dark gray metallic (current rattle can tester from a well known automotive suppliers is BMW graphite gray metallic), so it will look something like this (linked coz is a big pic): git.me/photo/2014/03/04/16661237941102532608/2466893557767609856/2009-AK-Cobra.jpgfor any of you who fancy getting your 'chop on. so, suggestions please.... Rich.

Oh, and one final thing, it has to go through iva yet, so the rims/tyres need to meet the regs, so nothing to wild

I don't think I've seen a Cobra on wide steels. I think that could look good, think 60s NASCAR racers for the look. Paint them body colour or black.
Having said that I can't imagine them bigger than 15 inch diameter so you'd need new tyres too.
----- Quick photochop
May not be your taste but looks a little different to 90% of cobras and it makes you think right?

Another vote for steelies here. 'Extreme offset wheels' make a great variety of styles & sizes.

I don't think I've seen a Cobra on wide steels. makes you think right? Loving this. Only issue with 15s is getting suitable rubber. Car had to pass IVA and I doubt any examiner in their right mind would accept a declared top speed for a 300+hp, less than a tonne, 5.3 v8 cobra as less than 130mph, so anything below v rated is out, and, technically, on paper, it'll do 180+ so I'm not sure I won't want anything much less than y or, at a push, w rated. A look around earlier suggests that even vaguely suitable boots will be north of £1200 on 15s (w rated), while 17"rubber comes in at better quality y rated stuff for less than half that.

Probably doesn't really fit your criteria, but I'll just leave this here.

I'm not sure about the wheel question but one of mine is, where's the build thread? It could be useful to others if you're IVA-ing it (that's my excuse anyway).

Lol, mostly posted on fb. I tried to start a blog but discovered that I couldn't be arsed. I do have a stack of photos though as you have to be able to prove you built it yourself at IVA time.

Looked at the Image wheel range? I did look at Image as they are the default (read "about the only") supplier of Halibrand replicas in the uk that will fit this kit. However, they are pretty expensive. I'm buying off Vintage Wheels in the US which works out, even with shipping, import duties, etc. around 25% cheaper. The Torque Thrust option not only looks better (imho) than halibrands but saves me over £900 on the "halibrands from image" option that most builders seem to accept as the only choice.
