Yesterday I finally bought my new project home. It's (as the title would suggest) a 1971 Reliant Scimitar SE5. It's got a 3L Ford essex V6.
Ever since I got my 1969 Land Rover running, I've been looking for a new project.
It came up on a Facebook selling site recently and my wife contacted the seller on my behalf asking if we could view. We were told that there were two other people wanting to view it and he'd contact us if there was any movement on it. At about 6:30 that night we had a message asking if we were still interested as he'd not heard from anyone else. I called him and within 10 minutes we were in the car heading to see it. Last taxed in 2005 and parked in its current position about 4 years ago, it was looking a bit sorry for itself but initial impressions were quite good. Body wise, there's a few cracks and bulges, engine is all there, all the trim is there. Interior is actually quite tidy (although one of the windows is stuck down).
The seller said that the two other potential buyers just hadn't bothered to contact him again. One was supposed to be there a couple of hours earlier but just plain didn't turn up and left him standing in a field waiting. Why do people do that? He bought the car 4 years ago to fix up but never got around to it and needed to get rid of it as the neighbours had been moaning about it.
The deal was done and we agreed to pick it up in a couple of weeks whilst we organised a trailer.
Here's the sellers pictures and the original ones I took when we went to view it. Apologies for the quality of some of the pictures. Apparently my brand new 600 pound phone can't take decent pictures.
