. . . they won't fit!!
Changing the front discs and pads on my merc w123. Got everything off, changed discs, pushed the caliper pistons back as far as they will go - they have bottomed out in the bore, the face of the piston is level with surrounding caliper bit. But there is not enough room for the new pads. Before I take a big file to the pads, is this advisable? I don't think it is, but how else am I going to get them in, and get to the gathering on sunday!
Help!

The car was born a petrol auto, but someone fitted a 4 cyl diesel and 5 speed manual before I got it. The parts were bought from ECP on the basis of the reg number alone, but both new and old discs are solid, so they can't be wrong. You'd think pads for vented discs would be thinner, so they must be right too otherwise the combination that fits would be solid discs and the (thinner) pads made for vented discs. Or something?
So I have to drive across town to work where the bench grinder is now?

So I have to drive across town to work where the bench grinder is now? I didn't, I used a sheet of sandpaper on the floor and it took an hour to do all 4, they needed 4-5mm off each. Thanks for the reply Bortaf, I suppose it's obvious really, wear them down a bit.

W123s came with two sorts of front brakes... The chnage-over date slipped my mind, but the late pads don't fit the early calipers - or the other way 'round. Anyway, there are two sorts of pads - the thicker don't fit the "thinner2 calipers, but the thinner pads fit the "bigger" calipers. If you get me. You'r not the first with this problem
