Hi all, i have been looking at oddities that people "back in the day" have built through necessity and also those who just want something different, and was wondering if anybody has pictures of similar cars. This is the sort of thing i am talking about.....

This is the sort of thing i am talking about..... I like that. It looks like it was built out of nessecity, it's quirky and cool. However, this thing I spotted recently, is something else.... Taken from here>

J H White's Triplex special. Three 27 litre WW1 Liberty aero engines in an old truck chassis amazingly got to 207mph and was briefly the LSR record holder in 1928 an attempt to go faster ended in tragedy

saw this (the car nearest the camera) at the weekend at the Llangollen motor museum - can't remember the details but it was all built by one man - had some neat touches - front lights all set back behind Perspex and rear lights looked almost like leaded stained glass. the numberplate was made up of cut out characters stuck on (to aid airflow I suspect) was on the road until very recently too

funnily enough they had a lotus brochure on the bonnet - this car pre-dates it by several years
I reckon some massive fat dragster wheels on the back and this car would look perfect!

I think it looks like a crossbreed Lotus Elite/Cortina Mk2 estate/Corsair!

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Ah the Douglas Hartley Special! Built by a guy from Rhyl called... can you guess? Stumbled on it in that museum last year. Fantastic place.

It's the 'Douglas Hartley Special'. The car is built on a spaceframe chassis and has a Ford 1600 crossflow engine. Glass is from a Ford Corsair. All the panels, brightwork and trim were hand made by the builder. The car was built in the 1960s so predates the Lotus Elite by some years. It currently resides in the Llangollen Motor Museum in Wales.
