Went to Oxford yesterday to pick up my new wheels and spend the day there, got them on now. I've always liked Slotmags and I've wanted some for this for ages since Allycats/Comps are too pricey nowadays

They don't need banding, I'm not after anything silly so 6.5 with ET13 is enough. Just needs to get hit with the lowering stick as I mentioned, the cheapo lowering blocks on ebay (£1 instead of £30) end tomorrow hopefully I'll win them cheap, but it's fine for now although I'll put my spacers on the back to bring those out a little.

One of my all time favourite wheels, had them on a mk3 escort and wanted them on my spitfire but it was too original to mod. They look spot on.

Won the lowering blocks for 99p, just waiting for them to be delivered. Should be cool with a little more of a drop and higher profile tires, got a few other bits lined up too, but here's how it sits currently.

So it's covered over 2000 miles as a daily driver since it passed the MOT, nothing much since Snetterton apart from buying the Slotmags. Went to Retro Show this weekend, had an awesome day, anyone that went or looked at the pic threads on here will have seen how much cool stuff was there. I took a lot of photos myself but the stuff already posted is much better so I'll leave mine out I was lucky enough to be on the RR stand among some other awesome stuff, snapped this quickly while there was nothing parked alongside it: Today I sorted all the radio and speaker stuff, it actually works now, and well at that!

Little update, haven't done much really - still driving it daily. Fiddled with the carb and it's running a bit better, it's doing 30mpg now which is good too. Anyone that saw it at Retro Show will have seen the rust and small holes of rot below the bumper (seen clearly in a pic a few posts down) that I never got round to doing, well I did that after. It's all good now, will probably go over it again but theres no holes or rust etc so thats good. Tiny bit on the wing by the mirror to do too. Result: Going to finish this too. Will go through the grades up to 2000 and then get some metal polish on it. Got round to doing some other bits after that. the driver's side front door and passenger's side rear door have an annoying rattle since I bought it, fixed that and it's much quieter inside. The radio broke about 3 days ago which I've sorted, fuel gauge doesn't read as of yesterday which is on the to do list. I'm hoping to make some progress on the little 5 too. It's a mess behind the dash though so I'm not sure, but I need it as a daily for winter again really. Should finally be able to buy coilovers in a week or two, as well as decambering the rear leafs since I've found someone that can do them.

Lowered it another 1" today. I like the drop but I'd much rather it be on decambered springs instead of blocks - although I'll get some eventually. Just need to drop the front to match now, it needs about 1.5"~. The pic doesn't really show it but it looks noticeably better in person.

Set about giving the front a little drop yesterday in the pouring rain by cutting the lowering springs. They were 2" shorter than the originals, and the back end is lowered 3" - didn't want to do too much or too little so played it safe and took 1 coil out. Now it's all back together it could probably do with another one, but it's much better than it was. I'll probably leave it like this until I switch to the adjustable coilover strut conversion kit. Or I'll just cut the extra coil out tomorrow. Dunno. Anyway it's better, ride is exactly the same but it seems to handle a wee bit better although maybe it's a placebo. I'm happy and it feels good to drive - looks better than the pic shows.

From that pic id say that's sitting perfect now. Not slammed but low and useable.

Went to a local show today, was a cool turnout with a load of classics and retros. Shoddy pic of the Escort Got many jobs to do on it this weekend that I've been putting off out of laziness. Fuel gauge probably the biggest one, I forgot what it was like driving knowing how much petrol is in it haha.

So a little update of things. Lack of photos throughout but I've made a start on some other bits of bodywork, namely the rot/rust because that's what needs doing the most. I'm not sure where to draw the line - the little scratches and paint chips and areas of patina where it's weathered etc I think I do want to keep because it adds to the character. The scrape on the lhs side wing apparently happened during the tv shoot. Anyway, here are the main bits. The only one that was ever that bad was the rear arch. The other two pics were after I poked around removing the loose weak metal. Cut the rot out after that and made a start. This is the first time I've really dabbled into bodywork and it's really fun haha. Because the car is a daily and a rolling resto I just wanted to get it all solid first, and then smooth and blended in afterwards. I'm deffo going to finish it tomorrow, just been busy with other stuff lately. Then it sh@t itself haha. Right outside my house luckily. Was only the rad hose splitting luckily. Also, I'm going to build a 1600 crossflow to replace the 1100 that'll be mated to a type 9 5-speed so it'll be faster and a more capable daily. The 4-speed box with a 4.11:1 diff and 165/55/13's gets a little too high up the rev range at anything above 65-70. Anyway, I needed to be somewhere but had a split rad hose. Improvised by taking the one from my Renault, exactly the same size luckily and has worked a treat ever since. Had the bonnet off to take care of a little rot on the underside, adjusted the hinges when it was going back on so it actually opens properly now. Had all the door cards off to sound deaden and then clean them, much less grubby than they were. Shortened the exhaust too, the long peashooter was an eyesore so it's a little more discreet now. Went to the NSRA Supernationals today. It was amazing but my camera had no battery which was annoying. Awesome show though as always, it's pre-1972 to enter though so we parked outside. And right now I just fixed the collapsed bases in the Recaros I have. The material underneath is quite weak so 6"3 me managed to break it haha. It's all reinforced underneath now so it's very sturdy and definitely better than new. I'm going to put them back in tomorrow so I have ssomething to use while the original ones that are torn to shreds can be reupholstered. They're comfy as hell too. It hit 99k miles today and I'm still loving it. New things happening means it should finally stop being a tight budget build but it's been super fun so far regardless. Got my RRG ticket so I'll be bringing it along. I've got 245895 more things to do on it so it's still got a long way to go but for now I'm happy. -Jake

Got this vid today real quick. The 1100 doesn't have enough power to hold the slide all the way round, but it's a good laugh

So I'll be coming to RRG this weekend, really looking forward to it. The Escort isn't quite done yet but the fact I can bring it makes me super happy because when the date for this year's gathering was announced it needed so much doing I never thought I'd finish it by the end of the year let alone actually take it. It needs way more doing than I have money and time for so it's still a little bit tatty, if you see it don't look too closely I've got the Recaro's inside it still because they're infinitely better to be in than the originals. Although I'm trying to make a deal with someone for a complete Ghia interior including a carpet which I really need haha. I think it's a 250 mile trip so fingers crossed!
