That's hard luck mate. Can you not complain to the dvla/vosa at all? Not sure, probably won't bother though. They said they'll do it on the cheap so I'm not paying much. I might drop in to a few places when I'm on the way back tomorrow and see who'll do it without a fuss. It's passed every mot for the past decade or two so I'm relatively confident in it, and the drive there proved it's solid and a good runner. Wish I had some pics of it on the way because it was really nice to cruise around in and then hit a few B roads and the motorway to give it a good test

Yeah, DW's are pretty good. They've tested all manner of old rubbish for me down the years without any complaint.
Other place I use is ASG in Biggleswade, but I haven't tried any old stuff with them.

I know a guy about 20 mins away that would do it, thought I'd give this place a shot again but I really shouldn't have. They literally asked me to start it up for them because they couldn't do it. Bloody hell, these people shouldnt be allowed to hold spanners.

Bloody hell, these people shouldnt be allowed to hold spanners. Haha yeah don't start! When I took the orange one, I know that they didn't look in the boot, because if they did they would have noticed that the battery wasn't held in with anything (it sat in a battery tray in the boot but it didn't have the extra piece on top that holds it in place since it wasn't delivered before the mot). Don't get me wrong it was a properly sorted and well-specced car, though I'm pretty sure it should have failed on emissions too, but it didn't. It's almost like they just left it in the carpark and had a poke around it. I'll see what tomorrow brings though.

You have to try a greek mot!we call them KTEO which means "center of vehicle technical inspection".even cars abandoned for years wouldn't fail!cars running engine swap, rotten chassis etc.Obviously the owner of the car gives "pour boire" to the inspector!!

After a while off from fiddling with the Escort, finally bought a new battery and it promptly burst into life. Also found out that the reason it ran out of fuel on the way home is due to a knackered fuel pump, so a new one is on the way that I'm waiting for Parcel shelf speakers.. Gave the 5 a quick clean before heading to Jon's today to buy his Recaro's.. Obligatory pic of my 5 with his 205 and MX5 Aforementioned Recaros Reason why I bought them: In. The driving the position is great, I'm 6,3 so the extra headroom is nice, legroom is good too. More supportive as well. I'll clean them up tomorrow, just wanted to get them in and try them first Will be putting a carpet in soon, really needs one. All done, I'm starting to love it again - determined to have it finished for summer so I can start getting it ready for RRG15. Next up will be the fuel pump, carpet, brake pipes etc.

Nice seats!!you have to colour match the rear now!!! Afraid not tbh, I'm just waiting for a good cond. set of cream ones to come up for sale, I'd like to keep the original interior Plan is to run the Recaros until I find some since they're not ripped and quite plush, I love them and don't care that they don't match so I'm not really in a rush.

Christ where do I start, I haven't updated this for a while. I've always been getting little bits done on the Escort but 2 weeks ago an electrical fire in my little Renault meant that the Escort was easier to put on the road. With that in mind, I made a push to finally finish it The engine bay was 50 shades of grey and green, so I painted it all black. Same goes for the floorpan. I got a new wheel and boss too, which left me here: Externally, nothing new apart from lettering the tires and a sticker for a mate's graphic design page/etc. Then, the day before the MOT, it got a full detailing. I have some photos on my phone that I'll post up soon, but for now: It then passed (!!!!) the MOT, the dummy I saw before who had never seen a car with a carb and manual choke wasn't there anymore and the guy that passed it was pretty happy with it. I then rushed home to tax and insure it (12th May), and went out in it that evening. It feels nothing short of awesome to finally have it all sorted, I'm so chuffed

Few misc pics, heres a close up of the wheel, I took the center cap from the original and modified it to fit - definitely not with double sided tape... The wheel itself is an Ebay cheapo which probably shows, but it feels good and much better than the original. Can't remember when I took this picture, think it was a few days before the MOT since it still had no plate. The front wheels could really do with banding but there's a few other bits that need to be done first. And if anyone's interested, the 5 is in bits on my drive, I took a lot of the interior out to identify where it had all melted, also found that it had happened before I owned it too. I'd like to get round to getting it sorted soon, but I'll see.

Those Recaro's are looking tip-top sir... I know you are going to continue hunting for some suitable front seats of the original persuasion but those Recaro's would look insane if they were trimmed to match the originals...!!! HHHMMMMMMMMMMMM, beige vinyl...

I've got the originals seats back in (I'll patch them up until I find another set) it because I'm a bit too tall for the Recaros Beige ones would be awesome, like this?

Looks great!
Was hoping to see you in Baldock today? I'm guessing you weren't aware it was on?
Glad it's MOT'd and on the road.

Not possible to get the originals reupholstered? Might be worth speaking to the some of the "classic / concours" car club if there is one locally..they more than likely could point you in the right direction....
Liking the green escort a lot, especially at its stock ride height...exudes retro cool...think the recaros redone in beige (faux suede perhaps?) would look the business....

It might be possible, I haven't really looked into. Should probably do that. It was cool at its stock ride height but I prefer it with the 2" drop it has now. I'd like to get it on coilovers soon with some 3" blocks in the back to bring it down a little more.
