Yeah I always planned to pop them back in, just had to strengthen the bases - they're great now thanks for those I think we're actually on the same stand haha, and yeah I'm going on the Saturday too, don't mind doing it all in one go but it's gunna be easier going up on Saturday and driving home Sunday with a sleep inbetween. Also had some good news too today which is that the rear leafs are finally going to be decambered, called up and got a seriously good quote for having it done by the guy that built this beauty:

So before I left for RRG a major clearout finally happened, found some stuff, was planning to bring it to the gathering to sell but not sure if it's permitted?? Anyway I bunged it all on ebay and I've made some good money, means I can finally get the bits on the Escort resprayed!! I try to spend absolutely zero money on this car * so it's never been able to have had stuff like that done. Should really smarten it up because the paint is a total mess Anyway 125 ish miles later I arrived in Worcester, think I'm about 10 miles from Shelsley Walsh. Journey actually wasn't that bad considering I have no radio and a 4-speed box, just cruised at 65 the whole way there. Jumped into it a bit too enthusiastically this afternoon and broke one of the bits I put in to hold the bases of the seats to the frame so it sags a little again, quick fix when I get home. More than anything though I'm just looking forward to seeing everything that's there It's still very very unfinished, but I thought it's better to bring it looking a bit tatty paint-wise with the rust and rot eliminated rather than covered in bare rust and rot like it was?? It's only temporary, just happened to be bad timing

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

Post-RRG update. This pic was taken right at the end, I think the only people that saw it was when I was coming into the show field - our stand was right at the bottom and my car couldn't be seen from most parts of the field. Oh well, there was some nicer metal around! Show was amazing. Car did well 250 miles there and back, no issues. Only thing is it was bloody filthy from the field! Pictures really don't show how bad it was haha. Wheel wells are the worst bit. 4-speed was annoying but I'm so used to it now. Set about doing the headlight last night. Bingo Then gave it a well needed clean today, much better now. Driving it today has revealed a new temperature issue. I could smell it getting hot and when I got home it was dripping water out of the rad overflow pipe since it's getting too hot and boiling it, hmm. Flushed all the fluid out of it then topped it up and left the rad cap off - ran it up to hot temperature with heater on full blast shows that the top radiator hose is hot while the bottom one is barely warm. I wanted to take the thermostat housing off to take a look but the gasket is toast so I've got a new gasket and thermostat ordered to sort myself out whatever the case. I know the thermostat is obviously not the cause and you can run without, but hey ho. It'll probably just be an air lock from putting the new rad hose on in a haste after the old one blew. I'm not being paid until the end of October for some reason so I've got a few parts coming while I have some money to spend on the Escort. Its always been a low budget thing but it's nice to buy shiny new stuff! To go with decambering the rear leafs it's going on coilovers on the front, the adjustment will be nice - awaiting delivery on those. Still on the hunt for some nice wider wheels too, shod in 175/50's in comparison to the current 165/55's. Also after the torrential downpour at RRG15 there was a large puddle in the driver's side footwell, it's never happened in light rain so with that in mind I think it's coming from a perished old grommet for the bonnet release cable. Put a nice new one in that's a good fit so hopefully it shall have done the trick - we'll see.

Fudged the dates up so turns out spring decambering is tomorrow. While I was waiting for that, I finally ordered new front springs. I've been meaning to put coilies on it for ages but they were expensive then and still expensive now. So sleeves it is! Coupled with some lovely short custom springs, strut strengthening plates cut out too ready to be welded along with the sleeves. Lots of oil surrounding the rocker cover so off it came, gasket was rekt Sanded all the rust off the cover, rubbed the rest down and gave it a coat of primer and then more leftover silver. Came out looking much better than before, going to move the battery into the boot like the other Mk2 had ssince it tidies the bay up a lot. Once that's done the rest can be started on, it's a bit minging below the heater bowl and the questionable welding it had around the bonnet hinges... It needs a lot doing haha, but it's much better than it used to be. It runs nice which is priority, but I'd like it to look nice too! And then, most amazingly, the temp gauge works! I put new clocks in it a week or so ago since the only thing on mine that worked was the speedo, but on the new ones everything worked except the temp gauge. I sussed it out and put this little guy in, and now it works which is nice I'll update tomorrow re; decambering, hopefully it goes as planned in my head but I'll see!

Well, went today to go get leafs decambered. Was done really quickly, a way I've not seen before. I had 3" blocks in the back with no decamber, and I wanted them decambered because running 3" blocks gives a terrible scrubline among other issues. With that in mind, I wanted it decambered a good 2" so that I could pop 2" blocks in there - result would be that it's lower and better/safer?? Anyway he says it's decambered about 2.5" iirc, advised against going anymore which is fine since I'd rather be safe than sorry. It's currently still got the 3" blocks in, it looks awesome in person and the drop is definitely noticeable, looking at it in person the reverse rake is so obvious. I'm going to stick just the 2's in tomorrow and see how it looks. I've got the coilover sleeves and springs ready to be done during the week, they offer adjustment and I have various blocks for the back so I guess I'll try different things and see what works best? It was parked back to back with Gary's Mk1 (chassis notch, 5 linked etc) and wasn't that far off I'll get some nice photos once the front is lowered to match

Lots of work keeping them moving isnt it :-) looking well with the decambered springs. Think about fitting anti tramp bars to the rear. leaves the car so much more positive on the road. Also they will be needed when you go 1600 lots of people go to competition lenghts (4 links, etc etc) but if the ATBs are not enough then add a panhard rod kit. Unless you are mental and have enormous power and huge tyres they are just not needed.

Thanks dude, I took the front struts out yesterday ready for the coilover sleeves so it should match the height at the rear now its decambered if all goes to plan, ready for Ford Fest on Sunday. ATB's are on the to do list, probably after the 1600 is in. Currently handles quite nice for what it is, I remember when it was bog standard rolling on 155/80's at the standard height, felt like driving a small aircraft carrier

After a lot of bother, coilovers are on. I had them wound right down because I thought the sleeves was welded too high but evidently not! Going to make a mad dash to get the car at a reasonable height, tried getting out of the driveway but it scrapes like nothing I've ever had before. But it looks cool as curse word. I'll get some pics in the morning before I raise it. Hopefully I can make it to Fordfest as planned, I'll see!

I never ever thought I'd look forward to raising a car but if it means I can get it off the drive and to Ford Fest tomorrow then so be it! Going to be a pain to get the jack under it again, I should really invest in a low entry one and/or some decent planks. Hopefully it all goes to plan, I'll update the thread tomorrow...

Sunday update. Last night ended after it was too low to get off the driveway. Too late and dark too. Woke up super early this morning since I wanted to leave for Fordfest at about 9ish. Wondered what the Escort looked like now daytime had come. This was it So some pretty serious rake. Managed to get a jack under it. No handy planks of wood or low entry jack to make it easy. Managed it with bricks, going to invest in a decent jack since it'll make getting it up to work on easier. Spent the morning fiddling around with the height, halfway up the platform resulted in this: Which got then typical "that'll do" and off I went. Quick test drive before the 1 hour journey to the Pod and the brakes were curse word, turned out to just be a kink in the hose With everything sorted, me running late I got a quick pic before heading off. I may adjust the height a bit, looks ok here I think? Journey to the Pod was alright, miss having a radio so that's something else to do. The roads in the area are ridiculously unsuitable for a car with this much clearance.. And I hit a bump and there was a loud crash but the car soldiered on. I'm pretty sure it was the crossmember, although the sump on the Orange Escort had a huge dent in from where the same thing happened. Arrived at the Pod and saw some cool stuff. This supercharged Mk1 fezza was my favorite. Ended up going early, may or may not have been told to get off the stand I had a pass for, for whatever reason Next up is a lot of tidying and that sort of thing. Now it's rust free as far as the body is concerned I'd like to get it looking a bit smarter. I haven't polished/waxed it since the day before the MOT so that's something. It came up really nice with Autofinesse and I have some left so I'll do it again.

Dude, I love your escort SO much, please don't paint it Thanks so much! Definitely won't be painting it don't worry, sticking to the simple, honest and low budget style it always has been The same chap I bought my Slotmags from let me know that he's got a set of 7's, so I'm in the process of trying to make a deal on them! Would be the icing on the cake

We didn't meet but you should never had been told to move your car. The problem was that the guys that asked you to move (Tony & Ben) were both racing when you arrived. You were not to know you were parked in their 'pit garage'
Fact is, they DIDN'T have stand passes like you DID but the Pod staff allowed them to park there the night before and in the morning, they refused to move! We (OSF) will be having words with CF management to ensure it doesn't happen again. We had a total of 42 stand passes including Staff, yet we only managed to get 18 cars on the stand!
On behalf of everyone at OSF, you have our humblist apologies.
Car looked wicked BTW.

I just assumed because I arrived so late (2pm ish) I was the last to arrive so I thought it'd be okay if I parked on the end? I don't think any of the OSF lot were near where the stand was so there was nobody to tell me so my apologies for the inconvenience There was a similar sort of the thing at Retro Show with the RR stand, lots of cars but barely any space given - whoever managed the stand that day did a great job squeezing so many cars in haha. Was a cool show especially considering it was its first run, thanks for having me on there, they did guide me to another space on someone else's stand but I didn't want to cause more fuss
