Hi people of retro rides
I'm looking at colours to paint my car, whatever i go for i want it layered and shiny, but what are peoples ideas???
I know its also down to personal preference, but I'm torn, there's so much to choose from!!!!
Anyone have idea, pics, advice....?
I'm thinking either dark red almost maroon.... Or duck egg blue with a cream roof
cheers

More than one coat is a great idea What kind of car is it? What wheels? What interior? Personally I can't tell you what colour I'd go for without knowing what it looks like. In other words... Pics required!

Like EmDee says Need more Info
When I choose the colour for my Vennie I had Colour charts from various motor manufacturers Got it down to three colours Put them in a hat and pulled out the winner which was SARB1 Burgendrot Which looked very nice indeed And took over a week of being with buddies drinking beer musing colours!

Is it for the Hunter perchance? A dark maroon could work quite nicely with the gold minilites you have planned May be worth sticking some better pics up to give people an idea of what you wanna paint

I often think as a rule of thumb, that the body paint needs to match the rest of the vehicle in terms of extremities. So if you're painting a car bright orange for example, you typically don't want to be rocking standard wheels/ride height etc. A colour that stands out is drawing attention to the rest of the car, so make sure it's up to the scrutiny. That said, a factory colour finished to a really high standard will compliment just about any modifications and will arguably look better than a 'look at me' kind of paint job. There's something timelessly cool about a car with a factory paint colour to show its humble roots, but with parts and a finish that informs those in the know that there's more to the car than meets the eye. I recently saw an almost-finished mk2 Golf project (Gaz's of Retropower) that is sporting some very tasty mods but is finished in its original dark blue colour to an impeccible standard. He could have gone for any candy/flip/metallic trick paint you can think of, but the understated beauty of a pedestrian colour with a mile deep shine just oozes class. It's all subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but give me a nicely finished standard colour over something 'eye catching' on all but the most specialist race cars every time. 'Less is more', 'just because you can doesn't mean you should', etc etc

Thanks for all comments! Yeah its the hunter, and i really don't want to paint it in a "look at me" colour (especially where i live!) ha i think blue with a cream roof might be a bit cliché ?? I love dark maroon, but then the car does look good in a light colour too i think? The interior is going to be cream when funding allows, which i think would look lovely with a red lining on the seats..... And everything I've done so far is with red in mind (anodised parts, interior colours, etc..) but my girlfriend has made me think twice..... :/ Just look on my build thread for pics,I'm doing this on my phone and its too long winded to put pics on threads Haha cheers

BMW Burgundrot. Or DEEP black, or duck egg blue.

A metallic gold would look rather fancy on it.

love the white - why don't you stay with it? Maybe glossy silver ist the way to go, it's quite unassuming.

Hmmm not sure about metallic gold i do like it white i have to say! But then i want a bit more colour than that... I really do like the idea of red, but everyone I've spoken to says it devalues a car, fades easiest, apparently gets pulled over the most by the local constabulary....?!

Have you tried doing a Google Image search for the car type and seeing what others are out there? Could spark something and give you an idea.

Now that I've seen the (gorgeous) car this is about I can form an opinion.
I have seen the future and the future is...
Brown.
Brown or gold.
It's entirely possible I will say this no matter what the car is, but at least I got you to post pics.
