Hey there, does anyone know where i can get one of those tools for fitting the chrome trim into the window screen rubber? I'm putting my mk3 cortina back together after its new paint, I have new screen rubbers and the chrome trim but cant seem to find the tool for inserting it! By the way I will be posting a full resto picture thread once completed :-) Thanks people

Thanks alot guys, searching for "lock strip tool" did bring up a tool on amazon but it was only on the US site! Cheers for the offer curlie467, but I'm down by Birmingham! I did find a tool on a mini site but it said it was "mini specific" do u know if they're the same size as the ford trim? I also found a nice looking tool on Woolies site but it was £29.99 + p&p!!! I thought that was abit steep! Thanks again people, Ant

Use a ring spanner & loads of silicone spray or dishwashing fluid or liquid soap Don't use mineral oil, it may damage the rubber. And do it in warm conditions, that's not a job to do with a cold, hard rubber seal...

Not cheap but Frost are UK based and have a tool with lots of different bits & thingies (thingys ?) for £33 www.frost.co.ukor look for "windscreen insertion tool" on Ebay to see what shape the wire needs to be bent to make a tool Hope you get sorted

I have been a windscreen fitter for the last 26 year's and have a few tools for fitting chrome inserts, one of my favourites is my smoothed flat blade screw drivers, franklin do a couple of insert tools of different sizes and are exactly the same as my old ladaw one's, make sure you seal the screen before you replace the insert or you might kick the insert out have to do it again, 3M 08509 sealer is fantastic stuff.
