Hi guys, been a while since I've written a build thread, the last one being my 1980 Chevette: retrorides.proboards.com/thread/66692/Anyhow, I have recently bought a 1978 MG Midget 1500. Looking forward to the weekend to start sorting a few niggles and give it a good look over. First jobs on the list: - Tighten rear leaf springs as there's a bit of a knock
- Check out front end for a slight knock, maybe steering rack?
On the plus side, she's had a recon engine, new hood and various other bits. Stay posted.

Is it wrong that I quite like the rubber bumpers on these?

Is it wrong that I quite like the rubber bumpers on these? I have a soft spot for them too, it's okay! So unfortunately the car now won't start... just gives a single click, doesn't even turn over, any thoughts? Engine and starter both turn freely. I started by removing the immobiliser that PO had fitted then whacked the battery on to charge which seemed a good a place as any to start. In other news, started a DIY refurb on the wheels. During prep: And after a coat of primer and a top coat: Fitted on car. Newly painted front, old rear: s2.postimg.cc/yd2nf4rjd/image_3.jpgRemoval of centre console: Polished up surprisingly well:

Now runs well after removing immobiliser which seemed to be draining battery and good clean up of ignition connections and a good starter motor whack just in case Now to sort steering rack, I have heard these have collapsible columns so could be that?

Lovely little cars these and very underrated sadly. My Mum has had one for nearly 30 years and although she's not the most...er...mechanically sympathetic person, the car's never given any trouble. Its been laid up for many years now but always seems to start and make its way round the block at least. Your's looks like a good one and I'm looking forward to seeing it progress. Bookmarked

Have been a bit quiet for a while but here's a a quick update! So my car passed it's MOT last month after only a few minor jobs: - Trunion bushes both sides
- Numberplate bulbs (admittedly I should have checked)
- Rear brake adjustment (again, I should have adjusted first)
So anyway, here's a couple of 'post pass' shots These also show the finished product of debumpering and new 'Mini' indicators up front. And have just finished up a bootboard that i have been working on. Started with an MGB boot floor, trimmed to size with a jig saw and covered in some awesome coffee sack hessian fabric: let me know your thoughts!

Looking good, and the bumper-less look looks better than I'd have imagined! Are you in Cornwall? It's a Cornish registered car.

the bumperless face was not the way I would have gone until you put the fog and mini signals on....looks great!....any plans for the rear bumper area?

Thanks, I'm pleased with it - tried a number of options but am very happy with Mini indicators and they're a lot more reliable than the MG ones! I'm in Essex but interesting to know it came from Cornwall!

With the standard indicators it looked a bit awkward but really happy with the Mini ones! Filled the holes and then cut fresh circular holes for the Mini/Defender indicators. Plan to fill get some filler panels for the rear to fill in the indents where the rubber bumper used to sit.

I sympathise on the Bumpers, I had one as my first car (Still have it too) and feel the bumpers just work. The rear one actually comes in handy if you "Pep-up" the motor due to the weight :-)
